Tifa would have an affinity for taijutsu. Aerith would have an affinity for medic-nin abilities. Yuffie would naturally gravitate towards stealth and stealing things.
As they grew up, the three would more and more strongly resemble their name-sakes. When Naruto was twelve, Aerith would be fifteen - which was a fairly sizable gap at that age as far as those involved were concerned. Not so bad when Naruto was eighteen and she was twenty-one but at the time of Naruto's graduation it would be sizable.
Time was rewound, played forward, looped, and everything was put into a stable line.
One year younger than Naruto was Yuffie. One year older was Tifa. Three years older was Aerith. Without altering ages - it was easiest to shift things for Tifa through physical or psychological fallout from the massacre. Delayed one year she could be in Naruto's class and then graduate at the same time. Yuffie could pass an advancement test and likewise be in the same class. Either of them could make it to the 'top kunoichi' spot easily enough. Tifa through excellence in taijutsu and above average in everything else. Yuffie the same except it would be traps, stealth, and acquisitions.
Or the team could be completely different. Easy enough as well. Having all three girls aware of the engagement ahead of time, natural curiosity would lead to observation. Observation plus the feeling of connection through the engagement leading to meddling. So Naruto could very well not be the dead-last and not on Team 7. Ending up on a team with Yuffie AND Tifa would be difficult but not impossible.
Toltiir put together a simulator and looked over the results and was mildly surprised at the results. He was well familiar with the whole ripple effect, where he changed one thing and something he hadn't paid any attention to at all was altered despite no apparent connection to the actual change. Happened all the time, actually. If the human analogy of time flowing like a river was used, his change would be a blockage or diversion and the "ripple" an eddy which sent a leaf drifting off in an odd direction.
If he arranged for Tifa and Yuffie to graduate at the same time as Naruto, Yuffie snuck into the teacher's offices and altered the teams so that a Naruto-Tifa-Yuffie team was formed. Aerith an experienced genin training in the medic-nin arts who would show up for training every so often as she was friends with the two girls.
The jonin-sensei differed but seemed to fall mostly on one of three different candidates, one of whom was the misdirected leaf in the river analogy.
One sensei that came up fairly often was Anko Mitarashi, who was a special-jonin and saw the assignment as an indication of trust and responsibility from her Hokage. The Hokage himself was mainly amused by the promise and initiative Yuffie showed (it was quickly determined where and how the paperwork was altered) and allowed the whole thing after a verbal warning to the student involved. Summoning, poisons, and an interrogation expert.
The second most-frequent sensei was an elderly jonin named Kansou Toburai, someone who would otherwise die on a B-Rank mission four months before the Chunin Exams. An old scarred guy who resembled Jack Palance at age seventy. Known for being so tough and dried up that it was expected that if a snake bit him - it'd break its fangs off and die of poisoning itself. Earth-release ninjutsu specialist with some moderate medic-nin and high survival skills.
The third was another doomed to die who somehow lived. Someone who had died prior to Naruto's examination and therefore should not have been alive at all. Much less available to take the position of jonin-sensei to a team of new graduates. An ANBU code-named Firefly, who had ended up injured as a result of the same attack that would otherwise have killed her. Put on reduced duties, she went on to become the sensei of the team. Specialist in infiltration, poisons, and her use of the Aburame insect colonies.
After reviewing this, Toltiir decided to use:
