"Fine."
"WHAT?!" asked Naruto.
"It's a wish that will benefit you, and one that was made with a sincere heart. Hang on while I retroactive the two wishes and mix things up a bit. Of course, this might end up with someone else being 'top kunoichi' you know."
"Huh, what-" asked Sakura.
Four years before their graduation. Events that had been building for decades came to a head, manipulation from several individuals behind the scenes all came to an abrupt head.
The slaughter of the Uchiha began.
Itachi sliced through a door, revealing three young girls cowering back.
The scene went to shades of gray, halting entirely.
"Do you accept an engagement to Naruto Uzumaki, in return for which you survive this night?"
"Huh, what?" asked the eldest. "What's going on?"
"In a potential future, after your deaths, a wish was made by the clan head of the Uchiha for three maidens of the Uchiha to be engaged to Naruto Uzumaki. Accepting means that you're at least potentially considered Uzumaki Clan and the two who are slaughtering your entire clan will pass you by. Refusing means he kills you and other maidens will be selected. But, hey, no pressure."
"Isn't Naruto Uzumaki that brat that goes around yelling about Hokage and doing lame pranks?" asked the eldest.
"Yes. He has some excuses, some hidden depths, and needs to become an Epic Ninja Hero. Though frankly that is going to take a LOT of work."
The three girls considered that, looking back and forth without speaking.
"Well, if you're going to reject it..."
"Wait a minute," said the eldest. "Hang on. All three of us?"
"Yes. That's what I said."
"Isn't he like - eight or so?"
"And your ages are seven, nine, and eleven. Your point being?"
"Why us?" asked the eldest.
"Because you are three girls from the extended Uchiha clan who are about to die without intervention. Also - your names and appearances are strongly reminiscent of some others that I've interacted with, though in a very different universe."
"Oh yeah, who?" asked the eldest.
There was a sort of long-suffering sigh from the inhuman-sounding voice, which then explained.
"Never heard of it," stated the eldest.
"I would have been surprised if you had," said the voice. "So, is this a 'yes' or 'no' because this has already gone on much longer than would have been optimal. The amount of amusement has dropped considerably."
"Okay," said the eldest.
"Fine," said the youngest.
"Maybe this'll be fun," said the middle one, getting mildly enthusiastic.
