Mischief Fragment - Wishcraft: Twisting the scalpel [Episode 264141]

by Kestral

Kabuto watched and frowned as Sasuke went staggering off. That wasn't the upsetting part though.

Instead, there was the Team 7 kunoichi running out from where she'd been cowering in the brush. She MIGHT be just going towards the fallen jinchuriki. On the other hand, she might be going after Sasuke.

No. Best not take the chance. Kabuto's frown altered as he thought of a way to demoralize the girl completely - and who was he if not someone to twist the knife completely?

She had made it three-quarters of the way to Naruto, her eyes blurred from unshed tears as she debated for a moment running after Sasuke instead. She actually changed course for three running steps to do so, the pang in her heart and internal debate about whether Naruto was dead already raising all sorts of feelings of guilt and self-doubt and self-loathing.

A sudden flare of pain and a hammer-like blow to the back of her head caused her to stop all of that for the moment.

When her head had cleared enough to focus again, she was being held by her neck. Her back was pressed against a tree. She could see Sasuke's face through the tunnel her vision was becoming.

Sakura tried to grab the arms holding her as those hands tightened around her throat.

"Pathetic," said Sasuke's voice. A hand came off her neck just long enough to backhand her across the face. "Weak. Stupid. Little bitch. Do you know how long I've hated you and those other girls? Insipid little play-pretend ninja."

"N-no, Sasuke, can't-" Sakura stopped as the hands around her throat tightened and breath was completely stopped despite her efforts.

"No. You can't. You never will. I have no interest in girls. No desire for them. You have nothing I want and you never will. You will simply die here - a weak and worthless creature. Nobody will remember you. Nobody will mourn you. Even Naruto was more worth my time than YOU could ever be."

He'd been a spy for some time now, observing Sasuke and his team from the shadows when he could. He'd seen enough of the girls pursuing Sasuke to know how to tailor this torture specifically for her. People in their profession often forgot how words could be more effective than hot pokers if one wielded them correctly.

Seeing her struggle one last time then fall unconscious, Kabuto let the henge technique drop and Sasuke's appearance fade. He'd gotten the voice down of course. Maybe leave her a kunai so she could come to and then take her own life?

The smirk on his face fled as he felt a presence approach, burning chakra. No. This did NOT seem like a particularly good place to be at the moment.

Jiraiya found the spot, went over the signs of battle, and determined there was nobody nearby.

Which was good as he had one genin dying and another who had just come to and was a crying wreck over there.

Well, he'd been pounded a few times. He'd observed medical techniques enough to be able to manage a little bit. He'd never have the raw talent or skill that Tsunade had, but he could at least stabilize these wounds and have a chance of Naruto surviving.
