So - Spirit Release joined the various element release techniques, but had no actual users.
So someone had to be around to teach it and use the Empower ability to allow for that divine connection to be forged.
Clerical magic though - that allowed for the whole protect/heal and occasionally crush enemies. Particularly enemies that had vulnerabilities to attacks that were spiritual.
There were a few who could be inserted fairly easily. It was just a matter of finding the appropriate one and the appropriate time to insert them.
Some tweaking might be necessary.
Minato Namikaze looked over the application, and as he was new to the job, handed over the sheet to the Third Hokage. "What do you think?"
Hiruzen Sarutobi considered the form briefly. "Lousy penmanship."

"He might be really an Uzumaki, or he might be a spy," said Hiruzen Sarutobi after consideration. "The wandering priest is a possible cover story after all. Inu? Any thoughts?"
The ANBU stepped forward from the corner. "Met him to assess threat and determine if it was safe for him to meet Kushina Uzumaki. Claims amnesia, fragmented memories, but willing to be examined further. Kushina met with him, determined that he is of a lesser branch family and vaguely remembers some distant uncle having a similar look."
"Have Inoichi do a reading, claim it is to determine the nature of his amnesia - make it conditional to his settling here if he objects." Minato nodded and put the paperwork in a "to be filed" section. "It would be nice to have at least one more Uzumaki in the village."
"What happened?" asked Minato, appearing in a blur of movement.
Inu looked over, ignoring the scurrying T&I staff. "Inoichi tried to do a memory walk on the Uzumaki priest. Reported that it wasn't a blockage. More of a complete erasure. Prior to that are disjointed memories. He was examining one when both of them were knocked out."
"A trap laid in the priest's mind?" asked Minato, fingering a kunai absently.
"No," said one of the T&I workers. "No sir. Inoichi was able to relay that. It was apparently that the memory was too alien for him to process. The last words before getting knocked out were about 'too many angles' and that he couldn't follow the math. Feedback from Inoichi knocked out the priest."
"When Inoichi has recovered, have him report directly to me," said Minato, more curious than anything now.
Inoichi Yamanaka was shaken, that much was obvious to anyone who knew him.
"So - is the priest a spy or danger to Konoha?" asked Minato. If the older man WAS an Uzumaki - he didn't want to simply kill him even though that was the simplest solution.
"No," said Inoichi. He visibly gathered himself before going on further. "What I saw was... he's the real deal."
"What? He's really a priest? There's plenty of those," said his old friend Shikaku Nara.
"Not like this," answered Inoichi. "No. He's actually communed with the gods. Met them. He was told by one to come here. They were both human-sized and giants. They were both there and not there. The structures behind them. Things aren't meant to extend out like that."
"Genjutsu?" asked Minato.
"No. A genjutsu works within the mind's framework," said Inoichi. "Considered that. It wouldn't work if you tried to cram all that into a genjutsu."
"Who told him to come here?" asked Minato, wondering exactly WHAT was complicating his life.
"Inari Okami," said Inoichi.
"Ah, Lady Kushina and the young Hokage, how can a humble priest help you?" asked Arano as the two came in.
"You have healing jutsu?" asked Minato.
"No," said the priest, holding up a hand when it was apparent that this hadn't been the expected answer. "I have no chakra, remember? I have spiritual energy and physical energy but the coil structure apparently isn't there. So I have no jutsu. What I do have are spells that use spiritual energy and some techniques that rely on physical energy or chi."
Two blank looks.
The priest sighed. "Yes. I have healing techniques."
"Great," said Minato. "I wanted to see if you-"
"Could be present at the birth?" asked the priest.
Two sets of eyes blinked.
"I'm a priest of many gods," said the priest, gesturing towards the rows of icons. "Three pantheons in fact. The kami of Japan, the Norse - I'm not sure why, and the 7 Wanderers. Also not sure why that group. One of the benefits I get out of it is the occasional 'seeing the future' thing."
"Oh?" asked Kushina. "So you know -"
"That there is a great danger threatening you at that time? Yes. That the boy will be the hero of the Toad Prophesy? Yes." The priest nodded. "I can offer a blessing - free of charge. I haven't seen anything specific other than a blockage marked 'Spoilers' but I get the feeling there's going to be something bad happening around that time," said Arano.
Minato Namikaze remembered the priest having predicted something bad happening at this point of time.
He briefly cursed the priest for being a master of understatement. Also - his own decision not to have the priest present for the birth. Those odd talents might have been handy after all.
One of the Kyubi's tails came whipping down where it would certainly destroy an entire section of Konohagakure.
BONG!
Minato stared. Far from taking advantage of his lapse of attention, both the orange-masked ninja and the Kyubi stopped to stare.
What looked like a dome of fuuinjutsu script was glowing in blue and surrounding an entire district of his village. At the center of that dome was a single figure in the robes of a priest.
The Kyubi snarled and brought four tails together and slammed them down.
BONGGGGG!
The dome cycled through several colors and had rippled alarmingly, but it was still holding. Minato could see that the priest had dropped to one knee but was still holding the pen-shaped staff over his head.
As the Kyubi turned to more directly deal with this challenge, Minato made his move. Not that he wasn't glad of the breather, because he HAD needed it, but it was obvious that the priest simply wasn't up to this task. When the Kyubi attacked in full - that dome would fall.
It fell to him.
Naruto hid. He didn't know why so many people turned such cold eyes at him, but he was gonna do something about it!
"Well, well, child. It's about time you showed up."
"YAGGGHHHHHHHHHH!" yelled Naruto as he someone was right behind him without any previous indication that someone was there.
"Child, if a priest with old bones like mine can sneak up on you - however are you going to be a ninja?" asked the old man.
"Wa-wah-what?" asked Naruto.
"Hmph. I was expecting you years ago," complained the old man. "Hurry up now. Sweep that walk and I'll make milkshakes."
"What's a milkshake?" asked Naruto.
