Sasuke shuddered.
Naruto shuddered, but then brightened slightly. "We made a friend."
"Hn?" asked Sasuke.
"Stripey," said Naruto.
"Ah," said Sasuke, then he nodded.
"'Stripey'?" asked Sakura. One could almost see the little question marks appearing around her.
Zoop!
Anko suddenly appeared in front of them, her trenchcoat briefly billowing around her.
"EEEEEEEEEEEEEK!" said Sakura, leaping backwards.
"Here ya go, squirt!" said Anko, tossing a small vial to Naruto. "You didn't seem the type to use poisons - but I read up on your history of pranking. Now remember - when you use it you have to come by T&I and fill me in on how it works. Details. That's how you get requisitioned the experimental stuff."
"Oh," said Naruto, examining the thumb-sized vial. "Not much here."
"About 5cc," said Anko agreeably. "Pinky there got hit by about 0.25cc and she was out for about three hours. Anyone over chunin could probably throw it off in less than a minute - but battles can be won and lost in a minute."
"Right," said Naruto, tucking it into a pocket.
"You taking part in the Chunin Exams?" asked Anko.
"That's the plan," said Naruto.
"'Chunin Exams'?" asked Sakura, whose memory of that particular day and mission was kind of hazy.
"Try not to die," advised Anko. "Bit of free advice there 'cause you guys are SO entertaining."
Zoop!
"Is she gone?" asked Sakura hopefully.
The two other genin were silent a moment before Naruto ventured an opinion. "If she wasn't - I would have expected her to appear behind Sakura and do something."
"Right," said Sasuke.
"Do what?" asked Sakura, who didn't remember a lot of that night and had all sorts of imagination-going-there moments to explain how she'd ended up wearing a pair of denim shorts and a "Cats Laughing Concert" t-shirt.
"You want?" asked Naruto.
"Hn?" asked Sasuke.
"You're a lot more accurate throwing stuff," said Naruto.
"No. Maybe Sakura," tried Sasuke.
"Sakura? You want the poison?" asked Naruto.
"Uhm, that's the stuff that woman hit me with, right?" asked Sakura as Naruto took the vial out of his jacket.
"Yeah. Might be useful if we ever have to take someone down without killing 'em," said Naruto.
"Right," said Sakura, not entirely sure about that but taking the little vial and putting it away in her kit. No telling when something like that might be handy.
"I thought you were going after the Sharingan," noted Kabuto.
"I have Sharingan eyes," said Orochimaru. "Who do you think planted all those on Danzo? Did you think I wouldn't grab a few more for myself as part of the deal?"
"Well, no, that does seem logical actually," admitted Kabuto.
"The problem is that without the Uchiha body to go with it, the chakra drain is quite severe," said Orochimaru. "I've experimented around with it, even done animal trials. No - Sasuke Uchiha remains a major goal. Speaking of which, any news to report?"
"Nothing. Sasuke remains held back by an utter loser and a strictly average kunoichi," said Kabuto. "Add to that a sensei who fails to train them in anything - he should be easy to recruit."
"Excellent," said Orochimaru.
