Mischief Fragment - Wishcraft: Wishes Three, Timely Sensei [Episode 264345]

by Kestral

The timey wimey device had gone ding and backtracked the three wishes.

1st wish - Sasuke - that Naruto have an ability to make him a Sensor Type. Someone who had an extra sense to allow him to perceive details that a more typical ninja did not.

2nd wish - Sakura - that Team 7 had a sensei who would show up on time. Not that they would necessarily end up on Team 7 after things had settled down, so it was entirely possible that they'd have ended up on Team 8 under Kakashi.

3rd wish - Naruto - had been that someone else had to deal with it. Despite being a comment meant to stall - that had gone through. The result being:

3rd wish - Fuu - in a future that now Was Not had taken Naruto's deferred wish and wished that she could find a good friend. Even maybe a boyfriend. On being told that forcibly changing someone else's mind in such a manner was off the table, she'd pointed out that if it was HER mind that should be okay. It just had to be someone she'd have a solid chance with. The point that this then gave her better odds than was normal was well taken and the wish entered into the machine handling the fiddly bits.

Change had been introduced as Orochimaru experimented with altering various animal species - seeking to perfect such things and then use those enhanced species to further augment human subjects. He'd used the Forest Of Death as a dumping ground for some of those creatures as an area where he could monitor things a bit. He'd also thrown a few of an insectile super-predator species he'd worked out in there.

Orochimaru was intrigued actually as he appeared in Training Ground 44. Orochimaru knew what to look for, the species he'd dubbed the Chimera Wasp were tougher and stronger than most chunin. They were pack hunters who worked out of a hive and would implant their eggs in living prey. Their venom would paralyze that prey, the egg would hatch, the larva would eat the host and absorb genetic material. Having Konoha become a hive of such insects would have appealed to him but he didn't really expect that. Many jonin would have been able to defeat the Wasps in anything less than five-to-one fights.

Instead, something or someone had killed off the entire batch. Intriguing.

Orochimaru smiled to himself as he determined this had happened and he wondered which of his little experiments had determined the Wasps were a threat and dealt with it. Certainly not the ANBU or ninja, they were fairly clueless and easily avoided by one like himself so he had some contempt for them.

Was it the Sharingan Tiger? The Bloodthorn Beast? Perhaps the Tentacled Horror? The Venus Mantrap? The Kikimora? The Drop Bears, which were actually mutant sloths? Probably not the last. Which one was emerging as an apex predator?

Orochimaru licked his lips before vanishing again. He was looking forward to seeing the result.

Naruto improved. He threw himself into training himself, always seeking to push himself just a little bit further.

Sasuke didn't need to improve. He was the top of his class, a natural talent. He was of the Uchiha and an elite among ninja in his age group. He was driven to get stronger but that was something entirely different.

Sasuke knew that the boy Naruto was dead-last in the class standing. More - he knew that this was due to a complete lack of talent but most definitely not work-ethic. Passing some training grounds he'd seen where the dead-last had fallen asleep with bleeding knuckles or other training injuries.

Naruto knew that Sasuke practiced his skills, but it seemed to Naruto as if it was more like the honing of an already-sharp knife. Sasuke kept his skills up and his standing in the class and that was it. He hated that Sasuke seemed to excel while basically coasting along, but would admit privately that it was hardly the other boy's fault. Being dismissed by the Uchiha as a loser - that was less tolerable.

Naturally, the Last Uchiha was seen as handsome and cool and talented and the Heir of a noble clan (even if it was technically a clan of one within Konoha) by the various girls of the class. Except two.

The two in the class who did NOT fawn over the Last Uchiha. One, Hinata Hyuga, had the usual crush on Naruto and a complete inability to take that small step and actually talk to him. The other was not interested in boys at all from what anyone could tell. Fujiko just wanted to get stronger.

Toltiir watched, noting that Fujiko's story ended with her own genin test and dismissal from the ninja program.

As to Naruto's placement on a team, it followed the usual pattern with Mizuki and the Forbidden Scroll. It just ended up with:
