Drop Bear: Mutant Sloth. Slow but massive and with heavily armored skin. Teeth and fangs as secondary weapons while main method of attack was to climb to a height, wait until prey was beneath them - then drop down on top of the prey.
Kikimora: the most promising specimen from Professor Inri. A kunoichi of little potential genespliced with frog and raven DNA. Lost her mind during the process, becoming a wretch but a wretch with Water Release that was almost instinctive and good stealth and strength.
Venus Mantrap: Professor Furu's project. A venus flytrap modified for massive size, hooked tentacles, and a soporific gas release. It should be able to catch and digest one man-sized prey every week.
Tentacled Horror: Professor Inri's attempt to "one-up" Professor Furu. A plant that was mostly tentacles coated with a paralytic poison.
Bloodthorn Beast: Being Professor Furu's attempt to "one-up" Professor Inri. A wolf-shaped creature entirely composed of thorny vines and spikes if one went with appearances. Able to spit acid from the shoulder vines.
Sharingan Tiger: One of his own failed experiments. He'd attempted to use DNA from one of the pack-tigers of the Forest of Death along with some Uchiha DNA to produce a tiger with Sharingan eyes. Alas, the creature had apparently been born blind. He expected that one was long dead. Pity though - if it had worked he could have simply cloned a body of himself and added the Uchiha DNA to produce a perfect body for him to transfer into. The pinch of Uzumaki DNA for hybrid vigor seemed dominant though so perhaps it had survived, unlikely as that was.
Ramen coughed slightly, merging into the forest environment as he used a copy of an ANBU's stealth jutsu.
Some techniques, such as the one kunoichi's launching of snakes, could not be copied. Others, like the stealth technique and walking up trees, were added to the arsenal.
From a sword-wielder killing a drop bear, Ramen had learned how to make claws reinforced weapons that could carve enemies in half with a single swipe. An Uchiha spitting fire into a circle of stones to make a campfire provided the first breath weapon.
A sniff and the camouflaged tiger changed direction. The curved hard-leaf thing was back, and the scent of the two-legged kin was on it. While a bit salty, Ramen finished the bowl off and used raspy tongue to consume every last drop. Then moved the container back to the original placement.
Ramen stopped then, turning and facing a particular tree.
The man was familiar, having been spotted several times. Old and smelling of monkey, wearing clothing that mostly concealed his form. Ramen could tell the elder was strong, stronger than himself, and so copied the movement the masked ones did towards the elder.
The elder acknowledged him in the same manner he did the masked ones.
Ramen activated his stealth technique and stalked off into the brush. He was the apex predator of the Forest Of Death, but he knew there was a pecking order outside the Forest as well - and he was a smaller player out there.
Ramen knew his place.
"It is still growing," said Hiruzen Sarutobi, watching the tiger dubbed 'Ramen' as it faded away to such a level many of his ANBU could not match.
"At least two hundred and fifty kilograms," commented Kakashi Hatake, moving into place.
"It is very intelligent as well," said the Hokage. "You noted its reaction when I revealed myself?"
"It bowed to you," said Kakashi. "And I also noted it has a two tomoe Sharingan."
"Last week, Wren was injured and facing an angry drop bear. The drop bear was killed by that tiger before it could finish Wren off. Several times, during survival training, chunin have reported seeing that watching their camp." The Hokage was thoughtful for a few moments.
"Your orders?" asked Kakashi.
"It seems to view humans as non-prey," said Sarutobi Hiruzen. "Until and unless that changes, I shall keep the policy that no one is to hunt it down. I... it just used shunshin."
"When it gets older and more powerful, it may be difficult to kill it," pointed out Kakashi.
"I'm considering having an Inuzuka, perhaps Hana, attempt to teach it human language." Hiruzen shook his head. "As to your point - it is still one creature and a group of jonin or an elite such as yourself could still manage it."
A pebble shifted. A turn to the left instead of the right. A butterfly flapped its wings.
Naruto stopped training abruptly and leapt off into the bushes.
After a few moments, a shadow straightened up from some different bushes, turned around, and nearly ran straight into Naruto's chest.
"EEEP!"
Because Naruto Uzumaki was a sensor, determining that someone kept watching him was fairly easy. WHY was a lot more difficult to figure out - but he wasn't getting any feeling of hostility from her so he wasn't responding negatively.
Her stricken expression, slowly rising tide of blush, and way she squeaked all indicated something to Naruto. Unfortunately, he had no idea what - he just knew it meant SOMETHING.
So he went with the obvious explanation. "So, you want to train?"
This situation was fine, as far as it went, but the being of chaos thought that Naruto ending up on a team with two nondescript ninja who had originally failed their genin test was a bit of a letdown.
"Substitution No Jutsu!"
Having those two pull out and putting another two in was not quite as simple as someone exchanging their position with a log of roughly the same mass - but held the chance of much more in the way of repercussions.
Fujiko was switched back in, now becoming the kunoichi of Team 5. As Fujiko was a weapons/taijutsu specialist, that left the possibility of the third member having some other specialization.
