Mischief Fragment - Wishcraft: The Contract, the Hidden, and the Klutz [Episode 264483]

by Kestral

"So, what's it like being a member of some big ninja clan? Is it cool?" asked Naruto, age nine (and a half!) in a completely open manner.

Tenmei Hyuga considered her response on several factors. One, she was a spy for the Hyuga clan. Two, everyone KNEW she was a spy for the Hyuga clan. Really, the eyes kind of gave it away. Three, the little demonic creature was actually kind of endearing and not very demonic unless you were an unclaimed bowl of ramen.

Okay, she needed the work and she WAS reasonably skilled as a maid. She'd retired from ninja work as she'd gotten a kunai to the knee during a chunin exam. This DID bring in some money.

"It has its moments," said Tenmei, straightening her maid uniform as she considered how to tell someone who had no clan what it was like to live as part of one.

"Oh?" asked Naruto, elbows on the table and hands pressed to his cheeks, quite obviously ready to hang on her every word.

"Uhm, well," said Tenmei. "It's..."

Naruto was still curious, especially as Tenmei had NOT given him anything but vague indications like it was more 'crowded' in the clan compound.

"Pardon me, oh. Naruto-kun. Uhm."

Naruto blinked. This was a girl he'd seen at the Academy. Maybe he could get answers from her!

Tenmei was entirely unsure HOW it had come to this.

"You're it!"

"Lively, isn't it?" asked Henrietta, sitting on the veranda as the children played a training game in the backyard.

"Ahhhh! Hinata-neechan! I wasn't ready!"

"I suppose," said Tenmei.

"They understand that secrets are to be kept secret," said Henrietta. "Anything Naruto learns of the various Hyuga techniques will remain secret. Likewise, Naruto's progress as a ninja is to not be discussed away from here."

"Yes, Henrietta-sama," agreed Tenmei. The Hyuga clan's head, Hiashi-sama, already knew of such things of course.

"Well, we'll see," said Henrietta. "You might ask your clan head if it would be proper for Naruto's little friends to sit in on some lessons. We've a trainer arriving in three days to teach some basic skills."

The trainer was old, scarred, and ornery.

"I thought I was training ONE child," complained Lan Fu.

"It was polite to extend the invitation to Naruto's friends as they were present at the time," said Henrietta. "Do not worry about your fee. It was unexpected, but we shall cover the extra expense."

"Hmph. You better," complained Lan Fu. "My duties for the zaibatsu include training bodyguards and elites. Lan Fan. You will assist me."

"Yes, honored grandfather," said Lan Fan.

"Remember this in summation," said Lan Fu. "The foundation of ninja skills. Stealth - don't be seen or heard and you can accomplish missions in the most efficient manner possible. Avoidance - deflect or misdirect your enemy and the battle is half-won. Accuracy - strike only when your target is clear, when the mission requires it, or when lives are on the line. Endurance - there are times when things are bleak and you are injured or without supplies. Shinobi endure."
