Asuka stood in a more aggressive stance, a red glow slowly forming around her hands.
"Lava Release: Lava Shot!"
"Ice Release: Ice Shield!"
Ebisu made a slight noise as the two continued their battle, ninjutsu giving way to taijutsu. The pattern continued. Rei was completely defensive. Asuka was completely focused on offensive maneuvers.
"Stop," said Ebisu after watching them for a few minutes. "Rei - you need to attack more often. While your ability to manifest Ice Release is impressive for a ten year old - you have not grasped the full advantages of that kekkei genkai. Asuka - your offense needs to cover your defense. You left openings that a more offensive opponent would have used to disable you."
"I find her plenty offensive," quipped Asuka.
"Rei, have you come up with any manuevers that are NOT purely defensive?" asked Ebisu.
"Ice Release: Cold Soak," said Rei.
"WAGHHHHH!" reacted Asuka before manifesting a fiery aura that began drying her out. "He didn't mean that you had to demonstrate on ME, damnit!"
"You both are acting distracted as well," said Ebisu. "No matter what is going on in your lives outside this - you have to focus on the task at hand. Distractions in the field are the leading cause of mission failures. With your particular kekkei genkai - they could quickly prove fatal as well."
"Whatcha reading?" asked Asuka as the two changed from practice clothing to more civilian wear.
"Research materials," said Rei.
"Looks like a tankubon," said Asuka. "How is that research? Gonna teach you to act like a normal person?"
"Exactly," said Rei in her usual soft voice.
"Yeesh, I know you spent eight years growing up in some mountain hermitage but still," said Asuka, shrugging it off as more weirdness from Rei.
"You yourself don't fit in with Konoha customs as your mother smuggled you out of Iwa rather than have your kunoichi duties be entirely concerned with reproduction," noted Rei.
"Yeah and I ended up getting engaged against my will anyway," grumped Asuka. "At least it's only ONE guy."
Rei silently nodded. "I still need to acquire a qipao and a bicycle before I introduce myself to my fiance."
"A..." Asuka paused before she decided she didn't want to know. Really. Even as curiosity began burning within her - reason was telling her this would just get worse.
Fortunately, she'd found her own guide to proper behavior that would work for such an unwanted duty.
