Instead it was something like jenga. The whole thing could collapse. So the development of a machine which handled the fiddly bits. It then became more like dominos. Everything fell, but it was to a different configuration and not a ruin.
Ruined dead worlds were common and of no entertainment value, so something to avoid.
In this case, the machine had taken the "Naruto stops being fixated romantically on Sakura" and parsed it into "Naruto never fixates romantically on Sakura" and began clicking through that along with the retcon needed for his 'Danger Sense' and came up with a set of changes.
Oddly, it actually went back before Naruto was born by over a decade. Altering something that had happened during the period that Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki had been genin.
Looking further into it, the event altered was actually a Chunin Exam that both Minato's team and Kushina's team were entered in. Why would something in that cause Sakura's wish to be granted? Just a domino to knock another down or was there something there to explain the change?
"Team 6 under Jiraiya. Minato Namikaze, Rokko Fin, Akira Fujimoto."
"Team 8 under Kazuki Kuwanomi. Kushina Uzumaki, Mikoto Uchiha, Michiru Kinushima."
"Well done, both teams. You managed to get through the first and second exams quite well," said Jiraiya. "Now comes the individual combat portion."
"This part is always the same," said Kazuki, not looking towards the perverted jonin. "They'll do 'random' matches that are actually intended to weed out some of the weaker ones. Keep in mind that they'll stack the deck against you. Alliances are discarded and anyone you fight will be fighting to kill you."
"Except the lovebirds," grumbled Akira.
"If they end up fighting each other that could get a bit heated, yeah," said Jiraiya. "Anyway, think about it. You're going to want to consider tactics and what you know about your potential opponents."
"We've made a few alliances along the way," said Minato. "You're saying to discard them?"
"Yes," said Kazuki.
"No," said Jiraiya. "Just keep in mind that your opponent is likely to throw them aside."
"Honestly, I don't know why we're even going with Chunin Exams," said Kazuki. "War is likely to erupt again at any given moment."
"One should always be prepared for war, but always ready for peace as well," said Jiraiya.
"Argumentative pervert," sniped Kazuki.
"That aside," said Jiraiya. "Friendships between villages can be broken or reforged. Trusting someone completely isn't a particularly 'ninja' thing to do. Sometimes an alliance means the difference between life and death. Try not to die if you've got a choice."
Toltiir's tail twitched. Nothing he could see there. Had there been a war going on at that point? Was it just a lull in battle or was this between the First Shinobi War and the Second?
Didn't matter.
Something had been changed. The program checked out as working as designed - so something in all the fiddly bits had been altered but he just couldn't see what. Maybe if he fast forwarded?
Let's see. Naruto fixated on Sakura initially because she was picked on and he thought she was cute - though it was her intelligence that he most admired to begin with. So Toltiir thought he could go to that point and the difference should be obvious.
Eyebrows were made with a light poofing sound so that he could raise both. Looked like the girl that Naruto had developed a crush on in the Academy was:
