The Eel ship was a simple spelljammer ship, retrofitted as a planejammer. Planejammer ships were capable of flight and could go into space or open a gateway and travel between universes.
Their ship slowly descending on its own, and not knowing at all how to FLY said ship - left them kind of without a lot of alternatives.
"Unidentified Ship! Stand by and prepare to be boarded!"
Naruto stood on the railing and yelled back at the ship that was now only a few meters away. "WE DON'T KNOW HOW TO FLY THIS THINGIE!"
There was silence from the other ship for a brief time. "Say again?"
"WE DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO ANY OF THAT STUFF!" yelled Naruto.
"Get off the rail, Naruto. You're going to fall down," said Sakura. "Look at how high up we are."
The other ship began slowly closing. "Do NOT attempt to change course or speed."
"WE DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO THAT STUFF! ARE YOU GUYS DEAF OR SOMETHING?!" yelled Naruto.
There was a gentle bump as the other ship touched sides with their Eel-ship.
Naruto lost his balance and fell.
At which point he couldn't help but notice that they were currently at a height of about ten miles. "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"
Something flashed as it crossed the distance between the ship and the falling boy.
"That girl... is flying..." Sakura picked up on part of it right away.
"Activate Recording. Insert date and timestamp."
"Report Guru activated. Incident report 264637AA opened. Date and time of update inserted. Twenty seven hours since incident initiation. Last update was medical report by Doctor Omori. View?"
"No. I don't think that will be necessary."
"Initial analysis of ship involved completed. View?"
"Huh. That was quick. Yes, and summary only."
"Ship is made almost entirely of wood, type varies but primarily pine. Enchantments on keel provide gravitational and atmospheric containment effects. Mana capacitor of unfamiliar design powers transdimensional jump ability. Control of vessel is through a mana-tap, also of unfamiliar design. Initial indication is that vessel is approximately seventy-two years of age and has had extensive repairs twice. Cargo hold size indicates vessel is primarily designed for mercantile activities. Weapons consist of two cannon type weapons, also using mana-tap capacitors."
Lieutenant Estima was silent for a moment. "Are the designs better or worse than current TSAB designs?"
"Analysis currently underway."
"I see," said Estima. "Record update, section - security."
"Ready."
"Initial impressions were correct. All four subjects are child-soldiers of an aggressive nation of a previously unknown world. Raw recruits and having graduated from a basic training program. They were awaiting a squad leader and instructor of more advanced training when an unintended dimensional breech was manifested. Evidence is that at least one Type IV Entity, named Harbinger, intervened. Dialogue from Entity apparently indicated that it was a sort of Fate-avatar. Possible second Entity of at least Type III classification involved."
"Indication from interview of Subject Four is that Fate-avatar was responsible for vessel. Also that Fate-avatar has nothing to do with TSAB operative of same name."
"Noted," said Estima. "Magical abilities present in all four. Subject Four has previously undocumented sight enhancement. Subject Three has extradimensional seal with second source of power. Subject One has latent eye-based capabilities. Subject Two - nothing special other than pink hair."
The lighting changed.
"An alert?" asked Estima.
"Subject Three has apparently escaped confinement. Indication is that a solid if fragile mana-construct duplicate was used in conjunction with an appearance-altering spell."
"Well, that's promising," said Estima.
"Ah, you're here. Come along. Quickly now." The VERY short woman in the lab coat and glasses motioned with her clipboard.
"Uhm, right," said Naruto. Saying he was an escaping prisoner didn't exactly sound like a good move, so he went with the option of playing along with the slightly-scary lady.
"The Device in question was recovered from that odd ship," said the woman, walking briskly down the corridor and flashing a badge at various stations.
"Right. Where have they got that anyway?" asked Naruto.
"Hmmm. The ship? Oh it's being examined. Different department." The woman leaned towards a wall and let lights play into one eye. "Edna Mode."
Things started popping out of walls and ceiling and pointing in his direction.
"-and experimental subject," added Edna.
The various weapons pulled back into their concealed housings.
"Come come," said Edna, striding through the now-open door. "Time. Time. Time. I need more time, darling. You understand, don't you? So much to do, so many experiments, so much going on! I have been living on coffee since yesterday. Haven't slept a bit. Ah, well, here we go."
A panel rose from the floor and a dome retracted to reveal four objects.
"Intelligent Devices," said Edna. "Substandard work. If you manage to connect to one we'll have to schedule some upgrades. At least thirty years out of date! No fashion sense either."
"Huh," said Naruto. One of the four things DID sort of appeal to him. He reached out, and the Device fitted itself to him.
Toltiir watched as one of the Devices he'd put together went to Naruto. It was going to be necessary when they ended up going off on adventures until their return to Konohagakure.
As it was, Naruto might just end up keeping:
