Rei stood in a relaxed stance. Her reddish eyes didn't stray from meeting the blue ones of her opponent.
"Yeah guys! Knock each other out!" yelled Mari from the side.
"Idiot, like I'm gonna lose to the Ice Princess. By the way, this is a TAIJUTSU spar so knock it off with the Ice techniques." Asuka then grinned and held up a fist which began glowing with reddish light. "Otherwise I'm going straight to my Lava Blob attack."
"Actually," said Iruka. "This is freestyle. You'll be graded on overall performance. The only rules are you can't kill your opponent and try not to destroy the training field. Begin."
"Ice Spike!" said Rei forming and throwing an icicle at Asuka.
"Lava Bomb!" countered Asuka.
"Laser Pulse!" tried Mari from the sidelines.
Rei and Asuka stopped and looked at the bespectacled girl.
"He didn't say anything about not having a three-way battle, did he?" asked Mari as she jumped into the ring.
Iruka sighed as the three started out with ranged attacks, then went to melee. Mari using Taser Punch, Rei with Ice Claws, and Asuka with Burn Knuckle. As usual, their chakra ran out quickly and they went to straight taijutsu.
An hour later all three had dragged themselves to the side. "Ugh. Damn claws," said Asuka.
"You can complain after trying out 'Lava Whip'?" asked Mari.
"..." indicated Rei.
"So. What about our -" Asuka made a face before saying it "-our fiance?"
"It's better than the world we came from," softly said Rei.
"Hush you. Think we can get Shinji to marry Sakura and let things blow over for us?" asked Asuka.
"Maybe," said Mari, sitting up. "You sure you want to write the kid off like that?"
"He's a loser," said Asuka, rising to a seated position herself because she sure wasn't going to let Mari outdo her. "A wimp and a loser. And an idiot. I'm not going to tie myself down with ANY guy much less stupid Naruto."
"So, you're lesbian?" asked Mari.
"I DIDN'T SAY THAT!" yelled Asuka. She glared at the other for a moment. "Why? Your standards are so low you'd make a play for that dunce?"
"Nah. Figured I'd find out where you stood," Mari fanned herself briefly with one hand. "We're twelve - so it's not a big deal just yet."
"I will marry Naruto," said Rei.
"What?! Why?!" asked Asuka.
Rei continued to watch the clouds in the light of the setting sun. "Penance."
Mari sighed. "I don't really think that's a good basis for a relationship. But in this world, what is?"
Present:
Naruto looked wildly around. "What... Did something just happen?"
"No," said Sasuke.
"Absolutely not," said Sakura.
"Oh," said Naruto. He looked around at the not-destroyed classroom. "Right. Uhm. It's not trashed."
"No, it's not," agreed Sakura.
"No reason for it to be trashed, is there?" asked Sasuke, taking a seat.
"AHHH! My fuuinjutsu book!" exclaimed Naruto, looking everywhere.
