"How so?" asked the Hokage, intrigued.
"Rock Lee is able to summon and manifest chakra, however he has an innate problem with shaping it," said Owl. "It has been noted in a few other ninja over the years, where there is a malformation in the coil structure. As a result, Gai has been teaching his student advanced taijutsu of the Strong Fist style. Even if it does not fix this problem, the boy's strength and endurance will increase as a result of the transformation."
"I see," said the Hokage. "See if he's available and will volunteer for this. Also get the permission of his sensei."
"As you will, Hokage-sama," said Owl, disappearing in a blur and swirl of leaves.
"Just pointing out this does NOT fit the original stated purpose of the transformation trick," said Sakura, quite aware that she was going to be the sole female with THREE males of the species if this went as planned.
"Have to determine how this all works first, otherwise I might have volunteered myself just to be young again," said the Hokage. "You have no idea how these old bones ache in the morning."
There was silence among the group briefly.
"That ANBU seems... formidable," said Sasuke finally.
"Some are," said Hiruzen Sarutobi.
Another uncomfortable silence.
"So we can fly and we have different breath weapons," said Naruto as he was not the sort to just let gloomy silences grow. "Sakura breathes ice!"
"Oh?" asked the Hokage. Ice Release techniques would be a good addition to the team. "And what exactly is yours?"
"I'm not actually sure," said Naruto.
"Well, while we wait, let's test something about your human forms, shall we?" asked the Hokage. "Cat? My fuuinjutsu supplies."
Cat handed a small scroll to the Hokage from her vest.
Hiruzen Sarutobi unsealed the kit and began scribing things out.
Rock Lee and Maito Gai appeared rapidly, led by Owl.
"-so the results appear to be fairly consistent," was something the Hokage was saying. "Your lifting strength is roughly ten times what it was. Your speed is only slightly greater, perhaps 150% of your previous. Your skin is harder to pierce too, not impossible but certainly tougher, as is your resistance to injury. I'd estimate your weight has doubled even if you look exactly the same as you did, so tissue density. I expect that you will eat at least twice as much as you did previously."
"Hokage-sama?" asked Maito Gai. "Your ANBU said that there was an experiment you requested help with?"
"It is an experimental secret technique," said the Hokage. "As such, if you choose not to participate - there is no dishonor in it. It will not affect your record in any way to refuse this."
"I will do whatever I can for my village," stated Rock Lee. "I am up to any challenge!"
"That is good to hear," said the Hokage.
"What exactly does it do?" asked Gai.
"If successful, his strength and general toughness will be increased by a factor of ten, and he will have a lifespan that spans a thousand years," answered the Hokage.
"That's if it is a success," inferred Gai. "What if it is a failure?"
"We don't know, this will be the first time it is attempted," said the Hokage.
Lee was silent for a moment before stepping forward. "If this is of such benefit to the village, I cannot refuse."
The Hokage nodded. "It is good to see the Will of Fire continues to burn brightly in this generation. Very well. The technique needs to be performed nearby."
