"Bu-why?" asked the five-year-old, trying to hide behind her Papa-san when there were scary strangers around.
"Because they can start you learning with things we can't," said her father kindly. He patted her once on the head. "I'm not that clear on chakra control exercises but you need some."
"Cha-kra?" asked Sakura, looking at all the big strangers with wide eyes.
A scarred man glanced down at her. "Yoshino. Remember, you volunteered for this."
"If it weren't for me, hardly anything would ever get done around here," complained the woman. She knelt down and smiled at Sakura. "I hear you're a very bright young girl."
"Uhm," sort-of-agreed Sakura.
"Naruto. You are five years old. It is time you learned of the training of the Hayabusa."
The old man stroked his moustache once, contemplating the clouds, before turning towards his student. He paused at the sight. "Naruto. You were playing 'cat's cradle' - how did you manage to tie yourself up?"
"Luck?" asked Naruto.
"No," said Lord Hayabusa. "Just no."
Naruto wiggled around as his papa walked off. "Waitaminute! I'm stuck!"
"A ninja must learn to escape any trap, especially their own."
Iruka Umino stood before the Hokage.
"You already know to look underneath things, Chunin Umino," said the Hokage gently.
"Yes sir," said Iruka.
"So, your analysis of the two Uzumaki in your class?" asked the Hokage gently.
"Little terrors, sir," said Iruka grimacing.
"While that more or less captures the emotional response, I was looking for a bit more detail. What about the rest of the class?" asked the Hokage.
"Sasuke Uchiha is leading the class, as one would expect," said Iruka. "I think if he weren't - Fugaku Uchiha would more resemble a Fugu than not."
The Hokage smiled slightly at that. "True."
"Sakura excels in studies, she has excellent recall and is very intelligent," said Iruka. "She is currently making friends with the Yamanaka clan heir and is already acquainted with the Nara clan heir. She ranks above Ino Yamanaka in most things, taking second place of the entire class in everything but two areas."
"Oh? And those are?" prompted the Hokage.
"Are you aware that Naruto Uzumaki has been making friends with nearly all the clan heirs?" asked Iruka. "He has especially made an impression on the Hyuga clan heir and the Inuzuka heir. Currently Naruto is second in the class when it comes to stealth and trapping. Following your suggestion at mid-season, the two of them took to fuuinjutsu. Sakura excels at the science part of fuuinjutsu, while Naruto takes the lead in the more artistic part. Together - they are terrifying."
"Which brings us to where they apparently developed a fuuinjutsu that sucked all the air in a room into a seal, basically causing an implosion," said the Hokage. "We're just lucky no one was injured."
"No sir. That was deliberate. And they deliberately got everyone out beforehand. They were trying to kill a fly." Iruka shuddered.
"A fly?"
"Apparently a particularly annoying one," said Iruka. "Also, whenever you hear Naruto utter the phrase 'say Sakura - what would happen if you-' that would be the cue to either intervene or seek cover."
"I wouldn't think they'd have the chakra to pull off something like that," said the Hokage.
"They don't," said Iruka. "They also don't have that much chakra control. That's one of the scary parts."
"So how did they do it without the necessary chakra or control?" asked the Hokage.
"That's perfect, Hinata-chan," said Naruto.
"Th-thank you," said Hinata, ducking her head. "I was just following your design."
"I knew this would be troublesome," complained Shikamaru.
"I hope Iruka-sensei doesn't try releasing that seal in a small area," said Sakura.
"Iruka-sensei has more sense than that," said Naruto.
BOOOM!
"Mizuki-sensei on the other hand," said Sakura as a chunin made a clearly unscheduled flight through a window and into the practice yard.
"I think it would be troublesome if we were still in the area when he gets back up," noted Shikamaru.
"Good point," said the kids as they scattered.
Mizuki twitched. Two kids had been in the class for three years now. Two demons with bright little smiles.
He had no doubt the little girl was planning on eating his liver. Yeah, little kumiho-in-training that one. Hah. He'd show her! He'd taken to drinking pretty heavily - when she came after his liver there'd be nothing left! That would show her!
"Dude. How many bottles of that have you drunk?"
"Shaddup, I's a chunin. I knows what I'm doing."
"Considering you've got four empty bottles of this stuff in front of you, and you're trying to drain one - I'm guessing not so much."
"I'da been a jonin by now, but I's got a plan to fix those demon-spawn fer sure."
"Any plan made with four bottles of Everclear in you has got to have some amusement value. C'mon. Give details."
"Shhhh. Ish'a secretsh." THUD
The bar patron looked over at the teacher as he slowly slid down off the stool to rest upon the floor. "How can he even manage four bottles of that without dying from alcohol poisoning?"
The bartender shrugged. "Practice?"
