Unfortunately, the fight hadn't gone according to plan. First none of them knew exactly how to deal with the threat. Then Ryouga had gotten lost, and Mousse had fallen in some water before losing his glasses and then flying of to do battle with some clouds. Kuno wound up as the victim of his own stupidity as he charged into battle and wound up getting blasted into the distance. Which left Ranma and the girls (with the spectators of Nabiki and Kasumi).
Luckily, reinforcements arrived. The Sailor Senshi had deteced a big power over in Nerima and gone to fight it. The power of the fight had attracted Morrigan. Honey had discovered another threat was close by and gone to fight it. And Nuku Nuku had just stumbled upon the battle as it was happening and decided to join in.
Then had come the strange blast. It hit Ranma and filtered to those girls behind him, resulting in a major flare up of something they still didn't understand. Whatever it was, it blinded everyone who had not been hit, and when those individuals had looked back, they saw the Overmind gone, and their friends and allies unconscious.
It was only when they reawakened that the effects had started to show. Setsuna had gone to look at the Time Gate and when she had come back, instead of popping up mysteriously, she had fairly stumbled back in. A bit of experimentation showed that while they were in the same neighborhood as Ranma, things were bearable. Go much further than that, and the problems started to set in.
They also seemed to gravitate towards the pigtailed boy, which was a plus in Nodoka's book. But until the latest Neko-ken incident, the resulting feelings had not been acted upon.
