Shinji's New Day: And now for the "Bastard" part... [Episode 28502]
Although few people knew of it, Gendo was a bastard, in the original sense of the word. Conceived in a night of passion between Gendo's father and a girlfriend when both were in college in the 1970s, the infant Gendo was dumped into his father Shinjiro Rokubungi's care by said girlfriend when Shinjiro dumped her and chose to marry another woman instead. Gendo's stepmother had resented having to raise another woman's child, and she made no secret of it to the boy. Needless to say, Gendo's childhood had not been a happy one.
Now as the effects of the wish washed over him, this past was changed. In the new version of history, Shinjiro had married Gendo's mother instead of choosing another. Gendo thus had grown up in a more normal family with both parents. As a result of this:
