Even though Ranma's attention was centered on listening to the minister repeat the wedding ceremony, he instinctively intercepted Akane's mallet attack on his blindside. "Stop it, Akane.", he said without turning around.
The command hit Akane like a physical blow, eating at her will and drive to continue her retribution.
Her next attempt accomplished no better results. But it provoked her father to take the unusual step of rebuking her with the words, "Akane, be quiet and don't interfere!"
Both commands carried an odd puissance individually. But together they synergized, trapping Akane's rage behind a wall of impotence. She could do nothing more but fume, struggling internally against her immaterial chains in silence. If she'd been more rational, she would have been worried and disturbed at her strange reactions.
The minister was unruffled as he calmly repeated the interrupted lines and continued.
Nodoka was almost in ecstasy, seeing her son get married. Soun and Genma-chan were quietly doing a victory dance. Shampoo watched in speechless horror as her denial was steadily eroded by the ceremony she couldn't ignore going on in front of her. While she too was inclined to interfere, she was rational enough about it to conclude that it wouldn't accomplish anything. Sasuke was pondering how he was going to break the news to his employers in such a way as to avoid being poisoned and bludgeoned.
As the repeat ceremony was concluding, Kasumi couldn't help interjecting an "Oh my."
This time understanding more of what was going on, Ranma hesitantly moved to kiss his new bride, but Nabiki put him off, placing a finger on his lips. "I want to kiss you too, but I won't be able to stop myself again. Wait until we get back to my room.", she requested, her expression promising it would be worth it.
Ranma kissed her forehead anyway. It felt nice. It thrilled her emotionally, and just a bit physically too. She playfully accepted the comeuppance, but waved a finger at him, warning him to go no further. Yet.
Nabiki prompted Ranma to thank the minister, which he did awkwardly, and she followed up, "Thank you father, we'd invite you inside, but frankly, most of us aren't dressed for company, and I am impatient to start my honeymoon. Please don't think us rude, but we'll visit you later. We appreciate your above and beyond the call of duty assistance very much."
With the minister dismissed, now they had to run the gauntlet of family, satisfying them enough to leave the newlywed pair alone for a while.
