Maya Ibuki really respected her sempai and superior, doctor Ritsuko Akagi. She had been there for her since she arrived in Tokyo-3 and joined NERV. She had learned much about computers and programming under her guidance. And despite some rumors circulating in headquarters, there was purely friendship between the doctor and her assistant.
Maya believed she knew doctor Akagi quite a bit and something in the setup Rei informed her of bothered her. Why Akagi-sempai would want to live with Major Katsuragi again ? She had heard from her and Kaji-san about the major's way of life and couldn't understand why Akagi-sempai would want to experience that again. She remembered one night where she had been pretty frustrated with the easy-going major and had extolled loudly the things she hated in her friend.
She had accessed the records and found the order, signed by Major Katsuragi and Doctor Akagi. Commander Ikari had approved the whole thing. She read the reasons advanced for this move, they were logical and believable. Still, she couldn't help but feel that something was missing...
Akagi-sempai was occupied in a private reunion with the commander and Major Katsuragi left to 'secure new living quarters for NERV key personnel'. The only person she could ask for information about this were the concerned children themselves, Shinji and Asuka.
Her shift was coming to an end. Since the major's appartment was on the way to her own, she decided to drop by and see if she could learn more. She really wanted to show her appreciation at Akagi-sempai's kindness to her by helping her in whatever capacity she could. But for that, she needed to know more.
*****
Rei Ayanami walked in the streets of Tokyo-3 with a single purpose in mind : go see Ikari-kun and ask for explanations for his absence at school and the reasons behind the odd request of doctor Akagi and Major Katsuragi.
She had never visited Ikari-kun, pilot Sohryu or Major Katsuragi at their appartment before. She simply didn't have reasons to. Yet, she knew its location out of necessity. It wouldn't take long for her to go there.
The thought of going to see Ikari-kun in his home elicited strange feelings in her. Maybe she could talk about it with him once her inquiries were done.
