*ring* *ring* *ring*
"Excuse me for a moment..." Hikari went to the door, leaving Maya Ibuki to her thoughts and her coming cup of tea. She was surprised by the identity of their newest visitor "Ayanami-san !"
If Rei was surprised at Hikari Horaki's presence here and her 'exotic' clothing, she showed no sign except for a slight eyebrow raise (only Shinji or Gendo could have seen it for what it was) "Class representative Horaki... May I come in ?"
Hikari bowed politely and stepped out of the first child's way "Of course ! Please come in !"
Rei entered and strode resolutely to the living room. She noticed the presence of lieutenant Ibuki and nodded at her "Ibuki-san..." A quick survey of the room told her that her fellow pilots were nowhere to be seen "Where are Ikari-kun and pilot Sohryu ?"
"They're... occupied. Do you want a cup of tea as well ? I'm already making some for Ibuki-san"
"Yes, I would like one" Rei watched Hikari while she was adding more water in the kettle "Horaki-san ?"
"Yes, Ayanami-san ?"
"Do you not feel cold in such garments ?"
"No, not at the moment. It's not like I was wearing this outside. It's only a costume"
"I... do not understand. What is the difference between clothes and... costumes ?"
"Ayanami-san, you've never heard of cosplay before ?" Hikari seemed genuinely surprised while Maya shrugged. She knew that Rei Ayanami had no hobbies besides swimming and a little violin playing.
Suddenly, their conversation was interrupted by the louder by the minute feline sounds coming from the bedrooms "YOOOOWWWWLLL ! MEEEOWW !! MMMEEEOOOWWW !!!"
Maya and Rei froze in place and turned to Hikari with a questioning look on their faces. She sweatdropped and chuckled nervously, her mind furiously searching for some kind of explanation.
"ROOOWWWRR ! MMMEEEOOW !!"
Maya spoke first "Did you hear this !? Shinji IS torturing this cat !"
"YYYOOOWWWLLL ! FFTT !! FFFTTT !!!"
"Ikari-kun has a cat ?" Rei found pets to be unnecessary distractions and burdens, add to this that animals didn't like her for some reason. Why would Ikari-kun acquire one ? And why would he treat it with such... cruelty ?
"MMEEEOOOWW !!! RRROOOOWWWRRR !"
"We must do something !" Maya stood up from her chair to go to the source of the noises but found Hikari blocking her way "It's not what you think ! Really !"
Maya was ready to push the young girl out of her way and Rei was backing her up when they heard something else.
"OH, YES, AAAAAAHHH !!!" "NNYYYYYAAAAOOOOW !!!"
Ikari-kun ? Rei was surprised to say the least. Never had she heard so much... joy in the third child's voice.
That's Shinji-kun's voice ! "What the hell is going on here !?!"
"Umm... Er... It's... difficult to explain. You see..."
"Spill, young lady ! I will not leave until I know what's happening in this house !"
"Horaki-san... I would suggest you tell us the truth"
There was a shuffling sound and a half-naked and sweaty Shinji appeared in the corridor "Horaki-san, what's this noise about ?"
"SHINJI !" "Ikari-kun !"
"Oh... Ibuki-san ! Ayanami ! What are you doing here ?"
"That's my line, third child ! Explain what you've been doing to this poor cat NOW !"
