Elsewhere, earlier that same morning, another person woke up in bed, and was not alone. Makoto Kino opened her eyes and quickly shut them again. The sunlight filtering through the blinds were painful to her eyes. She'd been drinking again, she realized.
"Why was I drinking last night?" she asked herself. A sudden shift in the bed, followed by soft mumble, gave her the answer. "I did it again, didn't I?" she remarked. No answers. But it had been more of a statement rather than a question. "I promised myself I wouldn't do it again." Still no answers.
With a sigh, the girl sat up on the bed. Despite the slight hangover, she still had classes to attend. She had worked so hard to get into the same high school as her friends; no mere head-ache was going to stop her. She looked over at the other person, still sleeping.
"Why can't I say no to you? I know you won't leave her, so why do I keep on doing this with you?" The other person kept on sleeping.
Makoto got up from bed and made her way to the bathroom. She started rinsing herself off with a bucket. She was lucky she had able to afford an apartment with a small furo, but she didn't have time to indulge herself with a soak. Picking up the shampoo bottle, she started washing her hair.
"When did life get so complicated?" she asked as she shampooed the entire length of her hair. She really ought to have done this last night, but she had gotten distracted.
The sound of the bathroom door opening caused her to look up from staring at the bathroom tiles. The other person had apparently woken up to the sounds of her bathing. Smiling, despite of herself, Makoto looked at the face of...
