[Episode 30513] [Episode 30513]Beryl smiled cruelly. Vash the Stampede... with the reward on his head, she could buy half the wasteland, rather than conquer it!
All she needed to do was get a little closer... then she could use her own power - the ability to suck the life force right out of other beings - to take Vash and D out. Then it would be on to collect the reward...
Beryl never saw the Bazooka shell coming.
Vash looked on in horror as Lina lowered her 'Dragon Slayer,' laughing. "Ha! Take that!"
Kunzite frowned, and signaled the retreat. Beryl was dead, Zoicite was unmanned... oh, he'd have his revenge for this. But for now, escaping and regrouping was in order.

"You... killed her?" Vash was aghast. Distracted by D, it had been over before he'd realized it.
Lina blinked. "Uh... yeah. I mean, she was the evil raider queen and all... so I blew her up." She smiled. "And she blew up real good, too!"
"NO!" Vash was horrified. "All life is precious! You shouldn't go depriving anyone of it!"
Lina's eyebrow began twitching. She'd known he was a pacifist but... "You're telling me that these... raiders! deserve to live?!" She waved her arm behind her. "Did you see what they were doing here?! They came in, intending to slaughter, rape, and loot. They were going to 'deprive' everyone here of life, if they could, and were going to be laughing while they did so! They are the lowest form of scum around, living off the blood of other people!" She frowned at her 'husband.' "They gave up the right to live the moment they chose to become Raiders. Any Judge would agree with me."
"That doesn't make it right!"
Lina just boggled, then snorted. "I'm going back to town," she said, "and help make sure there are no more of them around." Turning, she called back one more time. "Maybe I'll even find someone who was raped by them... and we'll ask her if they should be left alive," she sneered at him, then stalked off.
Vash was about to chase after her when D's quite voice stopped him. "So... Lina Inverse. She's grown up quite a bit since I last saw her."
"You've met her before?" Vash asked, uncaring that D was supposed to be hunting for his head.
D shrugged. "I doubt she would remember me. She's the only survivor of the town of Zephielia. Raiders calling themselves the Mazoku found out about her powers and wanted her. They killed everyone there to get to her. She herself had fallen down a well, and they thought her dead.
"She was six or seven at the time. When I arrived, at least three or four days had passed. It was completely chance that I decided to get some water for my horse, and pulled her up as well..."
D himself started to walk off. "This is a harsh world, Vash the Stampede. And your philosophy, while commendable, is not an easy one to live by." He stopped a moment, then finished with, "We shall meet again."
Vash stood watching D walk away too, before he went back to town as well...
