Nagabiki: One out of two ain't bad... [Episode 3057]

by Thrythlind

While Akane and Ranma were debating the difference between Ranma hiding behind Ranko and Genma hiding behind his panda, some approached the Tendo complex. But let us digress from that for a moment.

To speak in Ranma's defense, he at least used Ranko to hide from problems that usually weren't his fault, while Genma used the panda to hide from practically any type of responsibility. Anyway, Ranma usually did make good use of the girl form, if sometimes unintentionally, to scout out a weakness in his enemies when they would ordinarily be on their guard. Of course, he couldn't do that very well with many of his long term enemies, they all knew both sides of him, but it still worked with the idiots and random newbies that popped up from time to time.

It possibly would have worked against Mariko too, if it weren't for one small little detail.

The Ranma Saotome that Mariko knew was a girl.

"Okay team!" Mariko said to herself as she stood before the Tendo Dojo in her uniform. "We've only got one shot so let's not waste it. Give me an S...give me a U...give me a C C and an E S S...what's that spell? SUCCESS!!! YAY!!"

And with that she hopped up onto the the Tendo Dojo and saw her target below, sitting in a pool of water. And so she jumped down in her Kitsune Beauty uniform and landed next to Ranma with the injection gun.

"Huh, what...AHHHHHHHHHHHH! OWWW!!!"

"Oops...umm...forgot the pain killer in that cocktail," Mariko said, truly apologetic and embarrassed. Nabiki swallowed nervously as she considered that little detail.

In what the concoction of science and magic before Ranma could react. And as her body started to twist and change Mariko went on with her obligatory spiel, forgetting that she was no longer an actual member of the company whose uniform she was wearing.

"Congratulations on your purchase," she said, music playing out of a tape recorder behind her. "We at Kitsune Beauty hope you thoroughly enjoy the 'Darkfire' package that you requested...and may you have many happy days following. Ta Ta!!"

As Ranma stood dizzily as her skin blackened, her hair seemed to flicker like real flame, and a pair of wings erupted from her back, Mariko collected her stuff and started to leave, only to find several people in her way.

"Hey! What are you...?" Mariko stopped as she realized three things. Akane Tendo was in front of her. A snake girl was in front of her. Those two statements applied to two different beings. "Uh...oh. I guess I missed."

"Your employer wants a word with you," Nabiki said simply. Mariko paled.

"Excuse me, what did you mean by 'darkfire?'" Kasumi asked as she was trying to comfort an obviously pained Ranma.

"A mix of dark-elf, ifrit and bat," Akane said without pause.

"And I just get snake?" Nabiki asked, somewhat insulted.

"Actually, you got the Naga cocktail," Mariko said nervously. "Water elemntal, python, and a little dragon I think."

"Let me guess," Nabiki said, trying to drown out the muffled cries of Ranma transforming. "You decided to change your rivals into things that look evil and demonic so that Kuno would love you, right?"

"Well...DUH!!" Mariko said. "But I've got one more inning to play. And now it's time for DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE." She produced another injection gun and injected herself, before taking off running.

Ranma, transformation finishing, reached out to grab the passing girl, but missed. And Mariko leaped over the wall. By the time Akane and Nabiki had gotten to a point to see her, a still transforming Mariko was winging away with a new angelic form.

"Well," Nabiki said irritably. "I guess we need to test the Jusenkyo curse."
