“Ow,” he grumbled, before trying to stand up.
That failed.
“Ow.”
He then tried to sit up.
That failed as well.
“Ow.”
He decided that maybe he should stay on the floor for a bit longer.
“What should we do with him?”
“We have already done too much! Correcting his faults and problems has already gone beyond what we are generally allowed to do.”
“Are you suggesting we terminate him?”
“Would it not be for the best?”
“Do not assume our views on gender definitions fit those of the beings of this world. Their genders seem closer together on an evolutionary ladder than our own. Despite physical differences, females and males on this world are on almost equal footing; only outdated ways of thinking hold them back in several areas.”
“So then what do you recommend?”
“I recommend this plan.
“We enhance him to be the defacto liaison between us and the inhabitants. They will respond more favorably to one of their own rather than us.”
“You think that, even considering who he calls friends?”
“It may seem extreme, but it is a viable and more favorable option than many we have available. These people also know the faults we have detected, and if they see what we have done for this one, they will not be as ... antagonistic ... as they have been.”
“You do realize we showed them the failure of what we did to those girls who attacked our livestock?”
The alien waved it off. “It shows that we are not “Gods”, as they might see us, if we also make mistakes.”
“Very well; we shall begin to upgrade his intelligence after his body has recovered from the procedures that fixed his brain damage and mental retardation.”
“Understood. What of ... the failures?”
“After he is fully equipped, we shall let him deal with it. It will show we have no desire to be “controlling” parents, but can relinquish responsibility.”
