Ami cried. She cried harder than she ever had. Her father, who she had not seen for ten years; only having gotten to see him again two days ago, was gone. His life force was leaving him. There was nothing she could do to keep him alive. "Daddy..." She choked out.
Ami was scared and confused. She could literally feel her father download his magical force into her. It scared her slightly. Everything around her became sharper, clearer to her senses. She could hear the sadness and discomfort the others felt for her. She could feel waves of despair her motehr was giving off. She could literally feel the world moving around her. The experience was so familiar, yet scary all at the same time.
Then Ami felt something akin to a tickle on her senses. She could feel it coming from her father's pocket, something magical. Gently she rolled her father onto his left side and pulled the source of the magical feeling. An envelope. With the Kanji of 'A' which could mena 'Center' or 'Asian'.
Opening the envelope lowly, Ami took out the piece of paper, a note, and read it out loud.
Dearest Ami and my lovely Michi
If you are reading this now, then it means I have failed. What I always feared has happened. Gothwrain has come after me, no longer with an intent to have me join him, but rather to eradicate me, so that I would no longer pose a threat to him and his plans.
Ami, if I had managed to get to you before you read this, then this is good for more reasons then one. You see, Ami, I wanted to give you my own magical energies, my own skills, my very essence. For you see the reason why Gothwrain wanted me either on his side or dead was because he is afraid. Ami, we are Mages of the water element. Gothwrain's skill if of the fire elment, he has a great disadvantage against us. That is why someone with my skill originalyl caught Gothwrain's eye. He was afraid I would bring an end to his plans.
What you do with Gothwrain next, ties into the second reason I gave you my magical powers. If you decide that you cannot keep yourself fromt akign vengeance upon Gothwrain, then please, PLEASE seal away his magic ability first! If you don't, Gothwrain will become even more powerful. For a mage that keeps his magical abilities, even into death, will become a Lich, an undead magic user that is evil incarnate. Without his magic, Gothwrain will truly die. As without my magic, I will not suffer becoming a Lich either.
Now, to all of you, I want you to be careful. Gothwrain is FAR more than he seems. It has only been my guess, but I have come to the conclusion that Gothwrain is either one of Iceron's original wererats, or Iceron himself. He knows FAR too much about our history, and those of the other weres, not to mention the fact that some of his magics were known to have be 'lost' over the ages. Gothwrain is far from being your regular magic user.
Now for my final words. Michi. Ami. I cannot express to you both how much I love you in writing. You two have been the sun and the moon for my world. Leaving you is going to be the most painful thing for me. Not that I am afraid of death, no. I am just saddened that I will not get to teach Ami how to use her powers properly, or even get to see her grow up into an adult woman, to see her get married and have children of her own one day. I spent far too long away from both of you, Ami, Michi. These past two days, getting to know you again were heaven. True, we had to deal with monsters and wererats, but just being with you two again made it entirely worth it for me.
I thank you both, and into the next plane, I will never forget either of you. I ove you both with all my heart.
Ami dropped the letter. She understood now. She was a Mage. She had not found her skill just yet, be she war, healing, or even psionist mage... But she knew she was of the water element. She could extinguish Gothwrain's corrupt fire.
Working on impulse, Ami walked over to Onoli. She looked down at his chest where the Ark would be. Sighing, She knew what to do. What she wanted to do. "Onoli-san..."
"Y, yes?" Onoli said.
"Please, could I ask you for a favor?" Ami asked.
Nodding his head, Onoli said, "Go on."
Ami sighed. "Please, I know this may be asking a bit much, but could I put my father's soul into the Jasper of Leadership; into Rain, for safe keeping?"
Onoli blinked. "Excuse me?"
"Please," Ami began, "I can feel that your artifact is housing the souls of people. It is a small paradise for them there. Please, may I send my father there? I need to learn how to use this power he has given me, and he hasn't been able to teach me anything."
Onoli takes time to think about it. True, this Ark did house the souls of all the past leaders of the Edge Guard, but would it be all right for him to put a wererat spirit in with all sorts of werecat ones?
Still, Onoli knew deep down that there would only be comfort and a level of peace. The spirits had gotten along together well enough. One good wererat soul wouldn't be too much of a change.
"Yes, you may." Onoli answered.
Ami smiled. "Thank you, Onoli-san."
(------)
It was some time later. Everyone was still at Rei's. Ami was unconscious, having tried to use her power to a stronger level for the first time, her mother held her in her arms protectively.
Tirga moved over to Onoli. "Well, did she do it?"
Nodding his head, Onoli answered. "Yes. I can somehow feel him. I must say, we were lucky we were able to get a hold of Hikaru's soul before it left his body fully. Now he'll be able to still pass on his knowledge to Ami on how to use her powers."
Ranma, after being silent for all this time, decided to speak up. "Okay, so now what do we do?"
