"A genie is a magical spirit or person that has a lot of power," Lina explained with an angry edge to her voice. "One of the myths about them is that they can grant any wish. A lot of stories about genies have them bound to lamps, bottles, and other items. The binding object gives whoever has possession over it, control over the genie."
Gourry looked down at the ring and asked, "So when that other genie cast that spell, she gave me control over you?"
Lina rolled her eyes upward. "Yes, Gourry. There is another thing about the binding object. When I am out of energy or not needed by my...M-m-m.... you, I am stored inside the gem. While stored, my energy is replenished rapidly."
Gourry scratched his head, and then pulled out the Orihalcum statue. "Okay. Now, why did you give me this?"
Taking the statue in her hands, Lina replied, "I had a feeling that I might be caught and hid the statue with you. Now, I have a problem. I can't leave your side, unless following a wish or order. I have no idea how I'm going to hide this, until I figure out its secret."
Confused, Gourry looked at Lina and the statue. "You said that you would be stored in a gem, when I don't need you?"
"Yes, Gourry," Lina replied in a weary tone. "To release me from the gem, you have to rub it."
Gourry spread his hands in bewilderment. "Then take the statue inside the gem with you."
Lina looked at Gourry in shock. "Gourry! Y----"
Whatever Lina was about to say was cut off, as she turned into red smoke and was pulled inside the ring."
Gourry looked around in shock. "What happened?"
Looking down at the ring, Gourry had a flash of inspiration. "I see. Lina's inside the gem. I guess I should let her sleep. This makes my job of Lina's guardian so much easier."

Inside the gem, Lina looked furiously up at the crystalline ceiling.
"You idiot! I have to obey any command or wish you make!" Lina shouted, as she tossed the Orihalcum statue up at the ceiling.
Letting the statue clatter to the ground behind her, Lina looked around. Her eyes widened when she saw how big the place was. Walking past shelves and shelves of books that seemed to stretch for miles, Lina approached a fully stocked laboratory.
"What did that ditz genie say?" Lina muttered to herself. "I should be able to grant wishes to the best of my abilities? A research lab and accompanying books would help me grant wishes to the best of my ability."
Sighing, Lina retrieved the statue and put it with her new lab. Finding a mirror, Lina took a long look at her new outfit. It was obvious that it followed the color scheme of her old one. The brazier and panty portion of her harem outfit was yellow. The translucent, dark pink pantaloons and dark pink jacket(?) made up the rest of the outfit. Tan slippers covered her feet.
"At least I'm not wearing that silly hat and still have my headband," Lina said, and looked at her wrists. "Gold that I would love to get rid of. Stupid binding bracelets."
Blinking tears from her eyes, Lina found her bed and sat down on it. "Once I'm free, I'm going to find that ditz and make her pay for this."
Lina looked up once more. "It will probably take days before Gourry figures out how to release me. I guess I should work on that statue."
