How to be a Genie
Lina opened the book and a piece of paper fell out. Lina picked up the piece of paper and read it.
Miss Lina Inverse,
We are sorry about what has happened to you. The genie that had cursed you with this has somehow bypassed all the rules.
Lina growled, "Stupid idiot."
The wish made by Gourry Gabriev was for a way to keep track of you, not turn you into a genie. People who are turned into bound genies by wishes made the wish themselves, made a third wish and took the genie's place, or wished the genie free and took the genie's place. Other ways of turning people into genies are by cursing a person willfully out of anger or hate. Neither fit what happened to you.
Lina snarled as she read that.
What happened to you was not supposed to happen. Gourry Gabriev's wish would have normally have been granted by giving him the ability to know where you are any time he felt like it. We are right now trying to track down that problem genie before she crashes our system again. As to your predicament, we hope that the library of magical knowledge will go part way into helping you adjust to your new life. Unlike the libraries you are used to, this one is very well organized and has minimal repetition. An ability that you were given was that any book that you lay eyes upon or touch would be copied into your library. As to freeing you, we are not sure. This was a screw up and we do not know the binding spell. Hopefully, because it is a screw up that you will be freed under the easiest circumstances. That being that you have to serve for 1001 days. The next easiest would be ordering you to do something you really don't want to do. If this is it, that is the only way you can be freed and there is only one thing that can be designated as your freeing mechanism. You will keep your power upgrade when you are freed and can go in and out of the gem without needing someone to rub the ring.
Lina thought, "If that one. Then ordering me to cast the Giga Slave would be it. The 1001 days? Just a very long training session."
The gold book that you are holding will teach you how to be a genie both bound and freed. It is another way to make a transition to your new life easier. We are sorry and hope you will be free soon.
Sincerely,
Council of Djinn
Lina crumpled the paper as she clenched her fist and teeth. After a moment she gave a long sigh and started reading the book.
"I can't blame Gourry. This is all the fault of that blonde idiot," Lina muttered, as she read about her basic abilities.
"Okay. Since I'm a mage, I can't perform wish granting like the genies out of stories. They were mostly idiot savants with no really clue on how to handle their power when they first became genies. I have far more flexibility than they did."
Placing the gold book aside, Lina stared at the bookshelves. "Okay. If that letter is correct, then I should have the knowledge for the barred White Magic spells and maybe a few Holy Magic spells."
Lina quickly found a few books and pulled them off the shelves. She went back to her bed and looked at the gold book.
"I guess I'm done with that for right now."
After that thought, the gold book vanished and reappeared on the bookshelf Lina first found it at. The crumpled letter had vanished as well, and Lina got the feeling that the letter was back inside the gold book.
"Self sorting book cases. That council is going a long way to make it easier on me," Lina muttered.
Wiping the tears from her eyes, Lina started studying the spellbooks she had retrieved. She felt that she should know more than basic healing spells.
