She inherited it from her father.
Her father was the absolute Worst Cook In The Known Universe, easily beating out his partner in crime Genma, C-ko, Lum, and every other bad cook in anime. He got around this by being male and in Japan. A guy cooking for himself wasn't unheard of, but it certainly wasn't expected.
Akane would eventually, given time, effort, destroying seventeen pans, and much patience and guidance from her eldest sister - learn to make curry that wasn't too bad as long as she kept calm through the process.
Soun making magic potions was a disaster waiting to happen. No. It was a full-fledged, build a bomb shelter, forget HAZMAT and go straight to the JSSDF, you'd rather listen to Vogon poetry than touch the stuff, make out your last will and testament, DISASTER with a couple of exclamation points and circles around it, just waiting for a chance to rampage through Tokyo.
Should anyone be surprised that in an attempt to make Ranma Saotome the adoring slave of Akane Tendo, Soun screwed up Big Time? Of course not. It's pretty typical for Nerima.
Akane had made some pretty fragrant and some fairly awful messes in her attempts at "livening things up" while cooking. She had never managed quite this level of disaster.

In the mixing bowl, It had come to life. As ingredients had been altered by the magic of the Bakamonicon, It had noted the presence of magic and had adapted to this new power source. It lived.
As it finished adapting to its new environment, It began the road to sentience. A microscopic blob of proteins, enzymes, and various energies, it reinvented itself five times before it died - splitting into five new organisms. Now They lived.
Sharing information and speculation, They became One. Back to being an It.
It was introduced to a biological host. It determined that Host was alive. It debated Itself on the morality of being a parasite in a living organism.
It traveled through the bloodstream, found a place It could make a home, and did so. It began accessing information through magic and the nerves it could contact.
It determined that there were many Lives outside itself, and seperate from Host. It determined things light sight and sound and feel and taste. It discovered memories. Many of which made no sense at all.
Ranma had slept through many classes but his brain had registered them on some level. The term Symbiont was found.
It accepted name and terms. It was now Symbiont.
Symbiont accessed through the lines of magic something called the "Mercury Computer". More data flooded in as Symbiont grew and began repair work and improvements upon Host. Symbiont was now dependent on Host, so Host's physical and mental health were of great importance. Symbiont worked quickly to adapt to the circumstances.
Epiphany.
Adaptation.
Evolution.
Apotheosis.
Symbiont reached the plateau of its development. Without something to push it over the next stage, it could not determine what that was.
Host would survive, and the quality of his survivability was much enhanced.
