"Back to the matter of these children, an interesting bunch. What of this Ranma Saotome? He's an esper and a martial artist."
"Also a first class jerk," put in Cyclops. "He's pretty good as a fighter."
"He's got an empathic ability," put in Jean. "Continually projecting an adaptive field. I think it's part of a fear of being alone or being abandoned. People tend to see what they really want in him. Whether it's an opponent, a victim, or a hero-to-be. Rudimentary mind shields, mainly an Ego Barrier."
"Yes, I see." The Professor sent light telepathic probes out. "Some nasty childhood trauma there as well. Ah, I think I know what his talents are like now."
"He has more than one?" Cyclops asked, curious. "I thought it was more usual for mutant powers to be singular like my eyebeams."
"Yes, but Jean is a telepath/telekinetic. Esper skills don't always follow the same rules." The Professor brought up a different computer screen. "The empathic transmission is just a minor manifestation, it looks like his main ability is actually:
