Everyone remembered it. Maybe it hadn't really happened that way, but if everyone remembered it and all the physical evidence pointed to it, what the heck difference did it make?
Ranma had gotten away from Genma on getting to Nerima, met this really nice girl, become friendly with her, and (after an incident in which Hotaru could have sworn she saw Kaolinites head turn three hundred sixty degrees) in an attempt to get Hotaru out of that, they'd been married. At least ceremonially.
Legally hadn't been as clear cut, and due to a certain panda clinking a certain runaway aquatranssexual on the head from behind with a wheel stolen off a police car (another long story) - Ranma had lost track of Hotaru until over two months later when he (with most of Nerima chasing after him) had ended up at Mugen Gakuen during the big showdown.
There had been some fallout from that little incident:
- Tatewaki Kuno was more convinced than ever that Ranma Saotome was a foul sorcerer. The difference being that he knew that there were fouler sorcerers out there. He'd also fixated on Sailor Moon as his "odangoed goddess." The rest of the Senshi were just grateful he hadn't focussed on them.
- Kodachi Kuno had either been in the wrong place at the wrong time or at the right place at the right time, mainly depending on how you looked at it. After being caught between an energy hurling daimon and a few too many "Moon Spiral Heart Attacks" - she no longer used poisons and gymnastic equipment. No, she'd obsessed about being a superhero after that. She changed her name and modus operandi repeatedly but losing much of
her insanity had still left her at least somewhat wacky and nobody really wanted to let her in on their big battles against Great Evil.
- Shampoo had kind of gotten the same thing as Kodachi. The two did not get along though. Where Kodachi was nuts, Shampoo was motivated by pride. As a Champion of the Amazon Tribe, she darn well was going to be in on any Great Battles Between Good And Evil. There was absolutely
no way she was going to be shown up by a bunch of Japanese girls who acted more silly than heroic, even if she didn't have any spiffy magical powers.
- Akane, who hated guys, had declared loud and repeatedly that she was not interested in Ranma. The engagement was not something she wanted. She thought the Senshi costumes were downright silly, their attacks lame, and darn it she could be just as big a hero as any of them! Ranma was a pervert for associating with them anyway! (In other words she was jealous of the Senshi and took it out on Ranma.)
- When the fight had erupted, Ranma had been able to reach Hotaru through Mistress Nine. Things had gone to pot shortly thereafter. Hotaru was turned into a baby at the end of that.
That, in and of itself, was a major problem. At the end of the fight, he'd ended up with custody of a helpless little baby because there was no way in bleeding HELL he would have given Hotaru up to be raised by two people who'd been out to kill her not too terribly long ago.
Which was one reason that Ranma was different now, and the relationship between himself and Akane had soured somewhat. Not only had he previous experience with Hotaru, but he'd had to raise a kid.
Akane had taken the same tack with handling a baby she had with cooking. She could do it because she was a girl, damnit! There was no way she would let a fake girl (Ranma) beat her at that either.
Shaking the baby because she wouldn't shut up had gotten Ranma AND Kasumi to keep Akane away from baby Hotaru.
Which left him here, with the occasional violence directed at him for various reasons, the stupid fathers declaring the marriage null and void, the occasional attack by monsters or Sailor Senshi (though they mainly went after the two fathers after one or the other would make some stupid statement regarding Hotaru or the marriage).
Of course, things wouldn't stay that way, so now:
