Great Will/Hotaru 1/2: Raising a baby. [Episode 32958]

Ranma was discovering some things about raising a baby.

It was frustrating, nerve-wracking, generally played hob with your sleep schedule, and was not at all conducive to martial arts battles. There was changing the diapers too - that was definitely on the MINUS side.

He also discovered that any number of girls seemed to go into ga-ga land when confronted with the presence of a baby. Also that a number of arguments could be shut down with the simple statement of "you'll wake the baby" or defused by taking the bottle and feeding the baby in the middle of it.

It was odd how it seemed to force him to be more grown up because Hotaru had turned into a baby. What was the old phrase? When one had a child, one had to give up being a child themselves? Something like that.

He had help, for which he was duly grateful. Cologne, unexpectedly, had turned out to be up on both modern and more archaic practices in babyrearing. Some help, like his mother's and Cologne's, was quite competent and he learned a lot of things he hoped he would never have to use again. Some help, like Akane and Minako, was rather less competent.

It helped that Hotaru seemed to be an unusually quiet child whose violet eyes seemed to regard everyone around her with a wisdom she didn't have when she'd been older. It helped that she was such a friendly baby when she cooed and smiled that even raging rivals like Ryoga suddenly went "awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww."
