In amusement parks, petting zoos, circuses, and other places where parents take their children for fun, visitors were treated to the sight of costumed performers taking random individuals behind a portable clothes-changing screen and dressing them up in animal costumes. The people would laugh, clap, and cheer the performance, until they realized that the participants were not wearing costumes. When former friends and family started attacking them, the people would then scream, yell, and panic. If any one of these people had been present in several of these instances, they might have noticed the little girl also in attendance for each one. Wearing a pair of roller-blades, she would gleefully skate through the panicked crowd, her eyes watching adoringly the monstrous animals cause mayhem and destruction, injuries and death. Queen Nehelenia reveled in the praises of the masses and then in their screams.
In airports, train stations, and shipping ports, a different sort of trouble was plaguing the inhabitants of Tokyo. Data pertaining to arrival and departure times, shipping manifests, luggage destinations, and so forth, would turn up missing, or worse, changed. No deaths had resulted yet from train crashes or plane collisions, but the commercial delays were bleeding businesses of billions of yen. In each place, no one really noticed the little girl holding an abacus in her hand while chewing on a stick of Pocky. No force had yet to stand against Mistress Nine either.
Not all the Dark Genie were unsuccessful in drawing out the enemy. The Dark Genie, Fiore, had found someone who could oppose them. However, neither did he succeed in destroying his foe. He had been altering botanical gardens and national parks, filling them with alien flora dangerous to man, when he encountered the wandering mage. The boy had been travelling alone, and he had the gall to tell him to stop? Fiore directed his Host, Ukyou Kuonji, to use the powers of her Jupiter Ring against the fool who stood against them. Unfortunately, the magus had under his command powerful spirits he summoned through magical cards. Bombs and robots, lightning and potions, the Dark Genie's Host had been overwhelmed. And before he was able to retreat, the mage summoned an angel to banish him from his Host. Fiore was lucky to survive with some of his essence intact. Nothing more than a weak wraith, he watched, with impotent fury, as the boy warded the girl from repossession and then started to undo his work with the help of the druid he summoned.
