The truth of the matter was that Ryouga had been kidnapped. By space aliens. Who flew around in flying saucers. While wearing tiger-striped underwear. Yes, Ryouga Hibiki had been abducted by the Oni. Who had mistaken him for a member of their race.
After a long series of comic misadventures and amazing coincidences, the lost boy had gotten separated from his Oni abducters, only to find himself the leader of a space-travelling race of pigs called the P. Yes, pigs. In space. Who are named the P. Travelling on the ship, Unryuu. They were searching for their princess, Akari Unryuu, when they ran into Ryouga.
In an incident that involved the Oni flying saucer, a tiger-striped bandanna, some duct tape, a vase of flowers, an absent-minded Oni helmsman, and a freeze-ray gun, Ryouga ended up being stranded on a some planet with the leader of the P, Katsunishiki. Through a journey of self-discovery, universal brotherhood, and truffles addiction (don't ask), the boy and the giant pig became blood brothers.
At the end of it, as Katsunishiki lay injured from their encounter with a grue, the leader of the P had Ryouga promise him to take up his mantle of leadership and continue his search for their princess. The boy agreed. The next day, the Unryuu arrived on that planet. Ryouga was brought back on-board. Along with a Katsunishiki who was still alive (but feeling quite foolish about the whole dramatic scene with Ryouga earlier). But a promise was a promise.
Now, Ryouga Hibiki, age 16, captain of the Unryuu, travels through space, in search of the Princess Akari. Which just goes to prove that the Great Will of the Universe can be quite weird sometimes.
