That she, too, had been hoodwinked by someone she thought had loved her had been taken into account and then disregarded as inconsequential. The young woman entering a brand new world as she left the village behind her had held no great love for the laws of her former home. But now, decades upon decades later, as Cologne of Japan lay in a sickbed, she longed to see her home once again. And she would do so if she could get one of her line to marry into one of the ruling families of the Joketsuzoku.
Thus, this is how Shampoo, Cologne's sole great-granddaughter, found herself engaged to marry Mousse, the great-grandnephew of one of the matriarchs in the Council of Elders. Which just goes to show that even if the Great Will of the Universe is no longer thinking about it, earlier wishes have a tendency of carrying over into the new wishes.
The Japanese-Chinese girl was less than enthused about the whole thing. Sure, she could see where her great-grandmother was coming from. She had listened to the stories Great-Grandmama had told of her youth when she was just a kid. Heck, she even had a proper Joketsuzoku name and was proud of it. But why did she have to give up her life here in Japan just so Great-Grandmama could go back home to China? If she wanted to go back so badly, why don't she be the one to get married? Huh? Huh? It just wasn't fair!
And that boy was so annoying! With her great-grandmother sick, Shampoo had acquired permission from the high school to work part-time at her family's business establishment. Her mother had died a long time ago, so it was just her father and her great-grandmother there at the restaurant. Her fiance from China had been sent by the village to assist them with the work and to allow her to get to know her future husband. But he kept getting in the way!
As a waitress, she depended on her beauty and charm to get the customers to order the more expensive items and to leave behind big tips. But ever since that boy had been here, she hadn't had as much success. Whenever she tried to flirt with the male customers or when she just walked by them, her fiance would get all jealous and try to kill them. How was she supposed to get any spending money at this rate? The stupid boy could be so annoying! It just wasn't fair!
