Mihoshi's Fault: Hybrid Vigor [Episode 3443]

by Thrythlind

Tofu was conferring with one of the most odd individuals he had yet to meet. A 20,000 year old "child" genius.

Mainly, the problem was in figuring out the effect of cross species breeding in the case of the five expecting women. It was complicated enough between a three humans, a moriquendi, and a daikyoun, but of course, with Ranma, things could never be so simple. Which is why there was some ifrit thrown in from the spring of drowned "girl."

These were the situations.

Daikyouns bred like rabbits. Their cycle was about two weeks rather than a month and the gestation period was about seven months. Twins and even triplets were common.

In fact, being a race with common, if not often impressive, empathic talent, single children tended to fare poorly. Basically, without other developing lives to interact with, single birth Daikyoun had a tendency to be poorly socialized, have weak empathic senses, and sometimes a hefty self-esteem problem. They also tended to latch upon individuals in a desperate attempt to replace the brother or sister that never existed. Reference Mihoshi.

Moriquendi, on the other hand, were long-lived, challenging even the Jurai. It was partially genetic, partially from technology. Technology that Washu ascertained would be easy to apply to humans so that Kiyone did not end up outliving her partners by centuries.

They were not so fertile as other species, Kiyone fully expected not to have another child for at least a century. In addition the gestation period could extend to fourteen months. While they occaisionally boasted extremely powerful psionic individuals, such were far less common in their race than they were among humans.

Ifrit had a slightly higher than human body temperature, and, while they had children far less often than humans, being fertile less often, the frequency of multiple births was quite high. In addition, ifrit required extreme amounts of energy compared to other races, due to the much higher metabolism they possessed, such as how quickly Ranma could heal once splashed by cold water. Hence Ranma's rather large appetite after adapting to living for years on practically nothing for days on end. Other than that, the gestation period was about normal for them.

And, of course, humans, being one of the most common species throughout the galaxy, were well understood. But since hybrids were not often found, it was hard to say what would happen. Especially since human ability to channel power, or empathic ability was rather random, ranging from phenomenal to almost none.

Of course, no matter who the father was, Kiyone's child was moriquendi-human(since Ranma's male form was still human). But in Ranma and Nabiki's case the situation was more questionable. Though Ranma was apparently having triplets. (Nabiki's budgets had been torn apart in a fit of frustration when she heard this)

Akane's and Mihoshi's children were daikyoun-human. The problem there was that Mihoshi, as expected was having twins while Akane was having only one child, which was more common for humans. The problem of daikyoun single-child syndrom was rearing its ugly head, and Dr. Tofu and Washu were trying to figure out how to fix that.

((AN: apologies for the somewhat arbitary racial stats and making up a new cliche race for Ranma-chan)
