Author's Notes:With the tomb robbers in retreat, the bunny-girl Usagi suddenly developed a streak of bravery. She stopped cowering behind the palm tree-wielding Hotaru and hopped a little bit after the thugs.
Some people say a rabbit's foot brings good luck. Why? It didn't bring the rabbit any. ^_^
"And don't you come back, you big meanies! Or you'll be punished again in the name of love and- Wark!"
It had been so long since Usagi had made a speech admonishing the bad guys that she didn't pay as much attention to where she was skipping around as she should have. She was just starting to get really into it when she tripped over the remnant of a wall buried in the sand.
It that was all that had happened, Ranma and the girls would now be talking about the archeological dig with Professor Seta as they ate dinner. But it wasn't. Usagi was blessed with luck. Lots of luck. Good luck. And bad.
When the bunny-girl hopped onto the low wall and slipped, she had knocked loose some rock shards into the air. Her strong legs launched them at incredible speeds. By some strange coincidence, one of those projectiles hit one of the uncovered columns in the dig area at just the right angle to ricochet into another of the columns. It did this a couple of times. Finally, it crashed head-on against the base of one of the columns.
Unfortunately, the column was hit at just the right spot to crack it, causing it to topple over. Even worse, it was at one end of a row of columns. The toppling stone structure fell over just right to knock over its neighbor, which then knocked over its neighbor, and so forth.
"Watch out!"
"Get out of the way!"
"Eeeeek!"
"Master!"
"Aaaahhhh!"
"USAGI!"
After several minutes of yelling and screaming, stones falling, people and pets running, the dust cloud raised up by all the commotion finally started to settle down. Amidst all the fallen columns, heads popped up to check if it was all over.
"Everyone all right?"
"*cough* *cough* I'm fine here! Minako, too."
"Ack! Master! I'm all dirty!"
"You'll live, kitty cat."
Professor Seta turned around and looked over at the rest of them.
"What about the rest of you?"
"We're alright. Haruka pulled us all out of the way."
"Yes, thank you once again, Haruka."
"S'alright, Michiru, Setsuna."
Nearby, some stones shook a bit. Then a voice was heard.
"A little help here, please?"
"Hotaru?"
"Yes. I could use some help with these columns. I can't hold them up forever."
"We're coming!"
"Please hurry. Ami's trying, but she's not strong enough to help push this off of me.
The girls rapidly crowded around the pile of stones. Makoto glided down with Rei from the sky. Haruka and Michiru padded their way over. They all started grabbing broken sections of columns and hefting them out of the way. After a frenzied dig through the rubble, they soon uncovered Hotaru and Ami.
"Are you two alright?"
"We're fine, Master. Nothing a good snuggle won't cure."
Ami was plastering herself against Ranma's concerned frame.
"Hotaru did a good job protecting the two of us. She deserves an extra special hug from Master."
"Uhh, I guess she does."
With Ranma's tentative approval, Hotaru stepped to her Master and gave him a great big hug. One big enough to lift him off his feet by a couple of inches.
"Mmmmm... Master..."
"Ack! I'm happy to see you're okay, too, Hotaru."
The large cat-girl would have been happy to continue snuggling her Master, except the sound of a familiar wailing was approaching the group.
"WAAAHHH!!!"
