Mihoshi's Fault: Nine it is [Episode 3463]

by Thrythlind

Akane sat in a quandry on her own, compounding her worry by sitting and brooding. They were already stretched monetarily as it was, and she was thinking to to add a ninth child to the lot? But how else could she insure her child's well being? And even then, the option Washu...chan presented had some problems of its own. But apparently those problems were both less serious and less certain than the problems her child would face as a single child.

She turned as she sensed somebody approaching, and found Nabiki.

"Hey Nabiki," Akane said.

"Akane," Nabiki said, sitting down. She proceeded to get right to the point. "If there's anything I've learned as the family budget keeper, it is this: spare no necessary expense."

Akane and Nabiki stared across at each other for a long moment before Nabiki spoke again.

"Your girlfriend is getting worried," Nabiki said. "Let's go back in."

Akane visited Washu the next day.

And that just left the problem of when the babies would come.

Akane and Mihoshi would most likely give birth first, given the short gestation periods of the Daikyuun. Then she suspected it would be Ranma, followed by Kiyone and Nabiki.

After an exhaustive series of calculations Washu had presented her estimates for the hybrid gestation periods. Kasumi had come up with the same estimates quite a bit earlier by simply splitting the differences but Washu wasn't bothering to mention that.

Basically, Akane and Mihoshi would have about an eight month gestation period, giving them a due date in about six months. Nabiki and Kiyone would have a gestation period of about eleven and a half months (nine and half months from this point). Ranma was another difficult case, well more so than Nabiki, who'd be pregnant a good ten weeks longer than most human women.

What was difficult about Ranma was that perhaps her half-human child would attempt be ready for birth after nine months (or seven months from now), but the two half-moriquendi wouldn't be fully prepared for another estimated ten weeks.

This presented several possibilities. Ranma could give birth to one and remain pregnant with the other two until they were ready. The ifrit-human child could produce a radically premature birth for the other two. The ifrit-moriquendi could result in a very late birth for the ifrit-human. Finally, they could be born in between, making the ifrit-human late, and the ifrit-moriquendi premature, but not so extremely as before.

In any case, Washu was well prepared for any of these circumstances, it just made planning the budget difficult, as it was hard to plan for when Ranma's kids would be around except for the phrase "sometime between the Akane and Mihoshi and Nabiki and Kiyone." Nabiki was just glad that they were at least getting free medical assistance in the form of Washu. That at least made things much safer and much more affordable.

Though if Ranma's children all matched her appetite...Nabiki sighed.
