Faking It: Reading to Distraction. (or is that Distraction to Reading?) [Episode 34644]

by Mantech1

Ranma didn't hate books, niether did he have a love for books like some people at school. There were reasons for this, never enough time with all the fighting that went on, Genma's stupid ranting that if it wasn't Martial Arts related then it wasn't worth learning, his own spotty education and the fact that with these and a few more intangible reasons it was hard for him to read anything that wasn't martial arts related.

Furikahn had helped reverse the damage somewhat as the best way he'd found to get by with sleeping in class was to memorize the books and do well on the tests, not that well but enough for the teachers to leave him alone for the most part. Except for Ms. Hinako.

Treating it as an exercise in concentration for a fight he honed his focus and through that, unintentionally increased his reading speed. It wasn't exactly a geometric progression like with his physical learning skills but by 12am he was reading 6 books an hour.

Trying to understand the topics of the various books became not too unlike a fight for him as he continued reading until 9am from such categories as Science, History, Philosophy and Art. Anytime something confused him he went to the dictionaries and looked up the definition for the word(s) he couldn't understand. Fortunately several of the desks were equipped with small lamps so he could read without having to light up the entire library and draw attention.

It was still slow going on some of the books but it was far better then dwelling on what he'd heard.

At 10am he stopped as he heard:
