"Oh man, that hurts."
"I would expect it to," said a familiar voice.
Ranma slowly creaked his way up to a sitting position.
"There's some tea on the table, it'll help you recover." Cologne said as she turned back to the pots on the stove.
"What happened?"
Cologne checked the contents of the pot, ladeled out some red stuff into a bowl and set it upon a counter. "Lo Mein in red sauce, up!"
"I was at school and..." Ranma's voice trailed off.
"You lost," said Cologne simply.
"Hey! Ranma Saotome doesn't lose!"
"You did," said Cologne simply. "And if you go up against that individual again, you will lose again. Nabiki Tendo has been selling you as unbeatable, unbreakable, the 'god killer' and other things. There are people and beings out there that can reduce Happi or myself to a fine red paste in under a minute, Ranma. Remember that there is always someone better out there."
"Hey! I'm the best there is!" Ranma declared as he sipped on the tea. Aches began to fade in response. "What's in this anyway?"
"A few herbs - mainly willow bark." Cologne continued to stir some other concoction, her other hand blurring as she added ingredients. "You're the best there is. In your age group. For a normal mortal martial artist. Though if Ryoga didn't show up to challenge you regularly, you'd be slumping a bit more. Since you've come to Nerima, you've learned a lot but how much of it actually were things you started out trying to learn and how much of it was because someone came along and kicked you out of that slump? You're very very good, Ranma, but you're not the absolute best."
"Hey, I didn't lose!" Ranma insisted.
"Well then," said Cologne what do you call: having all of your attacks dodged or blocked, while he juggled you in midair for three minutes, then knocked you out with sufficient force that there are little pieces of storage shed all over the Furinkan High School grounds?"
