In Jade, the most common vision was seen by those that were apprentice mages. They could see a black outline of a feral beast, followed by a blood-chilling roar that filled their heads and froze their souls with fear!
Those that were arch-mages, that had greater control over their powers each recieved different visions... Ones that were far more vivid.
Nali, a Healing Mage who ran a clinic of Seer's Hamlet dropped the bowl she was holding. She had had a feeling of doom crawl up her spine, followed by a vision of a feline figure in black and gold armor, standing amidt the carnage of a slaughter of wererats.
Lie Seer, the father of Seance Seer was grasping at his desk to try to keep from falling out of his chair. He could have sworn he had just seen a set of gleaming jaws with the sharpest and largest incisors he had ever seen coming straight at him... But he knew it wasn't there... Or was it?
Bugie, a smaller Earth Mage from a lesser Realm where there was such a thing as 'Materia' and he had a grandson that was best described as a lupine fire-elemental was looking around himself in fear, as if someone had stepped on his grave. He could have sworn he felt the shadows literally move from their place and move around him in torrence, as a blood-curdling roar pierced through the air. While the area was calm, he knew something was happening somewhere... Something BIG!
Dee'em, a small gnome who happened to be in charge of an expidition of group of children from the Earth Realm, looked up from his 'Dungeons and Dragons' book. He could feel the anger that was wafting towards him, and the vision of a HUGE black cat roaming across a parched, red land. He had to admit, THAT was something scary.
In the Earth Realm, Dr. Theodore Diggers, while relaxing at home, stood straight up in shock. He could feel it. A dark presence that was somehow feline in nature. A large, cat-like beast of black, surrounded by shadows. And it felt like it was getting stronger. He had to tell his family.
The Undead Realm was quite a quiet place for once, especially for Lich King. While the undead Aura Mage was cut off from using his power, he could still feel magical anomolies. And the vision of the armor-clad monster werecat was enough to make him chuckle. It looked like there was going to be quite a slaughter soon...
Also in the Undead Realm, Gothwrain was shaking in his shoes. It didn't take a genius to know that the weresmilodon now existed. He knew it's plans, and he knew it's goals. Gothwrain's only hope now would be either the smilodon NEVER followed them here, or that someone else was able to handle the damned beast.
However it Onoli, the leader of the Northern Edge Guard recieved the clearest vision. While he was not a mage, he was meditating with the Jasper of Leadership' the Ark Rain. The combined magical and technological powers of the Ark could pick up on the magic that was released upon the creation of the weresmilodon with the Orb of Felbast. Being able to interpret the magic more clearly, the Ark showed Onoli a very thorough image. A tall, muscular werecat in armor of black and gold trimming, the shadows themselves dancing around him in intricate patterns. His eyes snapping open, Onoli knew he had too find this person... This werecat... This sabertooth weretiger!
As for why everyone had such fearful reactions... Well, it's kind of understandable. The weresmilodon was to Jade as the Boogeyman is to Earth. Mothers would sometimes scare their children into doing what they were told, such as, 'if you don't go to bed this minute, the sabertooth weretiger will find you and gobble you up'! Of course, this was an idle threat. There was no such thing as a weresmilodon or 'sabertooth weretiger' before. The basic idea and image became the groundwork for children's stories and old wives' tales. That is the reason that the fear for the weresmilodon was such a deep-rooted fear for almost every person on Jade and the Retreat. They grew up with that as their society's 'Boogeyman'.
And now that one did exist... Every childhood memory, every small fear, every story their parents told them was coming to the forefront. This had become a Class 1 Emergency...
