Doctor Moreau's virus had been given to Akane Tendo as someone to be a carrier. Only males would be affected by the virus after all.
Hah - what would become of the precious bloodlines THEN. The virus would spread and the magical charge on each would duplicate until a certain viral critical mass was achieved - and then it would be over. Those affected would be completely healthy, stronger and more intelligent than ever, with other enhancements of course.
Standards of masculine beauty would change. Wolfboys and tigerboys and elfboys and ogres (though without lowered intelligence of course) and angels and dark angels and dark elves and...
He'd had a lot of years of doodling out the mechanics. A huge bear of a man would take on entirely new meaning.
The thing was that the patterns had been pre-existing. Drawn on from some spiritual plane of existence or whatever, he'd found these archetypical patterns of magical energy and included them. The tricky part hadn't been those - it had been excluding some of the more terrible ones. Minotaurs for examples.
It was the magic itself that had lain apparently dormant and had shaped itself into patterns set by universal subconscious. Or at least that was the theory he'd worked out over the years. Perhaps he'd be a foxboy or an Incubus. On second thought he liked the "Dark Angel" name for the form better. Sounded sexier than 'incubus' at any rate.
"BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" laughed the mad scientist, prompting his downstairs neighbor to beat on the ceiling again.
Ranma was sick. As he rarely got sick, this was hardly something he wanted or expected.
When Ryoga got sick thereafter, that was concerning. Then Mister Saotome. Then Soun. Then...
Before the women of Nerima knew it there were guys collapsing all around them. Two days had passed since the field trip, but other than sneezing (once directly on Ranma, followed by Ranma saying something stupid, followed by Akane hitting him with Kasumi's rice cooker, followed by Ranma being sent out to get a new rice cooker) Akane felt fine.
With guys dropping all around them, the problem was made a little worse by:
