[Episode 36447] [Episode 36447]"I can't tell you..." mumbled Ranma, nervously twiddling his thumbs.
"Ranma..." warned a frowning Akane.
"You'd better tell before Akane gets medieval on your ass, Ranma-kun." advised Nabiki.
"I-I-I can't tell you!" stuttered the increasingly nervous pigtailed boy.
"RAAnnnmmaaaaaaa..." growled the sweet love of his live.
"Last chance, Saotome..." threatened a less amused Nabiki. Ranma didn't miss the use of his family name and the lack of endearment in the tone.
"Argh! Okay, it-it-it... it was..." he trailed off, his voice dwindling to a whisper, "t'was............... mom."
“WHAAAT?!” yelled Akane, hyperventilating.
Nabiki blink-blinked. Her cool demeanor slipped a bit, and she stared intently at Ranma-kun, uncertain she heard right. Fortunately, Akane was too stunned to react (violently or otherwise... violently), which let her sister the time to ask for confirmation.
"Ranma-baby... I must have misheard... probably because of your mumbling... you're going to laugh, but for a second, I thought I've heard you say 'mom'..."
"yes"
"... as in, the diminutive for 'mother'..."
"yes"
"... as in, one Nodoka Saotome, your maternal parental unit..." droned Nabiki, her frown deepening.
"yes" repeated again Ranma in a small voice.
Akane was nearly reaching critical mass, but that still left Ranma with one chance to explain... fast.
