He didn't see any of these things, what he did see was a life-size golden statue of a spear-wielding cat-headed warrior with large hawk-like wings. The young adventurer smiled broadly and walked forward to the sculpture.
"Very intricate detail," he noted, tapping the edge of the spear blade and pulling his hand back in surprise at the sharpness. "That's sharp, almost like its meant for real use. Wow...they put a lot of thought into this statue. You would almost think it is a real creature turned to gold or something." He backed off a few steps and shrugged.
"I'll have to pick this up on my way out," he noted to himself. He began to walk away from it when the "statue" moved. He paused and sweat dripped down his forehead. "Uh oh."
"All who wish to pass must first defeat me," the statue purred in a metallic voice, speaking Egyptian, as it walked toward him aiming the spear.
"Oh...a fight, eh?" Jeremiah smirked nervously.
He lifted his hands and started bouncing around on his feet jabbing at air. The statue stopped and stared at the strange youth.
"Float like a butterfly, sting like a-" Jeremiah's fist lashed out and connected with the golden statue with a clang. "...Glass rod." He whined, nursing his right hand.
"You can not defeat me with your fists fool," the statue said as it advanced.
"Hey, isn't there some other way we can solve this problem," Jeremiah asked as the statue tried to stab him.
The creature wasn't much faster than him, but he knew it would have the advantage of him sooner rather than later. Especially since he couldn't damage it with a punch.
"Fight or die," the statue demanded.
It lunged, putting all its wait behind the spear as the weapon flashed unerringly for his opponent's heart...and Jeremiah tripped while backpedaling.
The statue glanced down as it flew over his target, and blinked.
The over balanced and out of control creature flew for the open corridor Jeremiah had been heading for. Its wings bent and crumpled against the edge of the corridor and then it slammed into the ground.
As the creature stood up several spears erupted from the wall trying to pin it to the far side, and succeeding in pushing it forward further into the corridor, which suddenly dropped out from under its feet.
The statue screamed as it sped out-of-control down the tunnel until a large, heavy-sounding thud silenced it deep beyond the reach of Jeremiah's vision.
"Ah shit, I have to light my torch again," the adventurer sighed. As the fire caught there was one last crashing sound and a distant sounding gurgle.

"..."
"..."
"What was that?"
"Uhhh...you um...wouldn't understand."
"You don't know how that happened either, do you?"
"I didn't say that."
