“Name’s Logan, bub…” SNIKT!
The remaining Daimons watched as a trio of metal claws popped out from between the newcomer’ left-hand knuckles. His right hand already sported a pair.
“And you’d better get outta here, before ya end up like yer friend.” He said.
The Daimons growled at the short muscular man, as he stood over their dead associate.
“You caught her off guard.”
“We will not fall so easily, human.”
They charged at him, intent on double teaming what they believed was an easy target.
“Is that what ya think?”
Too bad for them.
The fight was short and brutal. Within moments, there weren’t any Daimon left. Just three corpses stacked on top of each other.
Sheathing his claws, Logan sniffed them out. ‘Humans.’ He thought. ‘But the scent is overlaid with something I ain’t ever smelled before. Judging by the way they acted, they were probably being controlled.’
Logan turned away from them to inspect the other occupants of the alley, a pair of teenagers.
The first, a girl, was unconscious, but otherwise appeared unharmed. The second, a boy, had several wounds on him which were leaking green blood.
Logan watched as a drop splashed onto the ground, and the subsequent sizzling as it dissolved the pavement, as well as a faint, acrid smell.
Acid.
Sniffing them out, he determined that there wasn’t anything out of the ordinary about the girl. The boy, though, smelled only partially human. Unlike the three jokers he had killed, the boys odd scent that wasn’t overlaid over a human one; instead, the two were mixed together.
Logan approached the two. As he did, the boy hissed. “Don’t come any clossser.” He took a step back towards the wall.
“Easy, kid,” said Logan, “I ain’t gonna hurt you.”
The boy hesitated before speaking.
“You ssaid your name is Logan, right?” At the mutants’ nod, he continued, “What do you want with uss?”
“Nothin’, kid. I saw those three goin’ after ya, and decided to give ya a hand.” Which was true.
The boy narrowed his eyes in suspicion, but visibly relaxed. “If you ssay so.” he said.
Logan nodded, and three left the alley, and the bodies. As they came back into the main street, Logan spoke up.
“So kid, what’s yer name?”
“Ranma Tomoe,” he looked at the girl, “And thiss is my ssister, Hotaru.”
Logan nodded, and Ranma continued. “Sso where are we going?”
“Just a place I know. Until we get there, why don’t ya tell me why those three freaks were chasin’ ya?” He then looked at the
Later…
Logan picked up a phone and dialed a number. As he waited for person to pick up, he thought about what Ranma said.
All along the way to their destination, a small, rundown inn, the boy had told him of the events that led to him and Hotaru getting cornered in that alley. After Ranma set Hotaru on the futon in their room, Logan had excused himself to make a call, while Ranma kept an eye on his sister.
If what Ranma said was telling the truth, and he had no reason not to, then this was just the beginning of something big, and they would need all the help they could get.
He snapped out of his thoughts when someone answered.
“Hello?”
“Hey, ‘Roro. Is Chuck there? There’s something I need to tell him.”
