'Asuka is still a bit mad at me,' Shinji thought, as he walked to the apartment.
'It's weird that they switch back to wearing that costume as soon as possible.'
Shinji opened the door and saw his genies looking at him waiting. They were in their genie garb and talking. As soon as Shinji opened the door, they turned towards him.
Asuka said in a sarcastic voice, "Our master is here, I guess we should talk about the cosplay."
Shinji asked, "Asuka, why do you switch back to your genie costume? You keep telling me you hate being a genie."
Asuka glared at Shinji. "Like it or not Shinji, this costume feels comfortable."
Rei spoke up. "I wear my genie uniform under my clothes and I believe that Genie Asuka and Genie Misato do the same, Master Shinji. The costume is the only thing that doesn't itch when I wear it."
Asuka glared at Rei.
Misato sipped at a beer and put it down, shaking her head. "It's time to go to the costume party."
Shinji said, "Let's skip the cosplay. Too many chances of things going wrong. Misato shoul also not drink any beer while there."
Asuka and Misato clenched their fists and nodded. Rei clapsed her hands infront of herself and bowed to Shinji as she passed him.
'Rei seems to have adapted to being a genie fairly quickly,' Shinji thought //////////////////////////////////////////// At the costume party, Shinji was talking to Toji and Kensuke.
Kensuke said, "It would be great if Misato was a real genie. You could command her to do anything you wanted."
Toji replied, "Personally, I'd like Asuka to be one. She needs some sort of humiliation."
Shinji shook his head and remained quiet.
As the costume party drew to a close, Misato glanced longily at some cans of beer. But the order that Shinji had given her remained in effect. At the end of the party, Misato drove the group home in her car. Shinji was in the seat next to her.
"Did you have a nice time, Master?" Misato asked, wincing a bit. "As long as we're in private, I have to call him that.'
"Well, I think so," Shinji replied, as he looked at the two girls in the back seat.
Asuka was shaking her head to fight off drowziness and Rei had her head resting agains the side of the car and was half asleep.
"Asuka. Rei. Return to your gems," Shinji said.
Two streams of smoke, one red and the other blue, flowed into Shinji's ring. Seeing that, Misato shuddered a bit.
"Misato?" Shinji asked. "How do you feel about being a genie?"
Misato concentrated on driving, as she answered. "I feel like a robot half the time. You give me an order and I have to do it. Having to live in that ring part of the time is also a bit eeriee."
"I don't understand," Shinji said.
"Probably not," Misato replied. "Shinji, you are going to have to start giving us more orders and make wishes using us."
"Why?"
"When we, I think this only applies to the three of us, use our magic to fulfil an order or grant a wish, some of that energy flows into us. That's our food and drink. Otherwise, we'll have to stay in the ring every night."
"But doesn't granting wishes also deplete your power?"
"Yes. But, that's how we are. It's a game of balance."
Shinji spent the rest of the ride thinking.
Misato thought wryly, 'At least I can wrap my master around my finger.' ///////////////////////////// As soon as they arrived at the apartment, Shinji released Rei and Asuka. Asuka glared at Shinji, but said nothing. Rei nodded her head. The four of them got out of the car and headed inside.
'Do I do this?' Shinji thought. 'It might help in the long run.'
"So what's our master thinking about?" Asuka asked in a nasty tone of voice.
Shinji absently answered, "I was thinking of this: I wish that the three of you would think of ways that your lives are better after being turned into genies."
The three genies opened their eyes in shock and stared at Shinji. Shinji glanced down at his ring.
"You three need to recharge for the night. Girls, return to your gems."
Shinji sat down on the floor of the now empty apartment. 'Maybe by giving them that wish, they'll be happier.'
