Mountain Retreat: First things first [Episode 382]

by Whitewings

Ramna got up carefully, not wanting to deal with a conscious Kodachi, and looked around the cabin. At first glance it seemed pretty beat up, but a more coreful looking around showed that it wasn't so much beat-up as well-worn. A lot of people had used it, and if they hadn't been the best houskeepers, they had at least understood basic maintenance. Well, first things first, and first thing was to get that stove going; one benefit to the training journey his idiot father had dragged him through was skill at wilderness survival, and that, it seemed, would be necessary here. At least there was a good supply of firewood in the box.

Getting a wood stove going is a slow process at best, even with Amaguriken speed to make tinder shavings, and by the time she'd started a steady blaze her hands and rams were more than slightly sore. A bucket of water (and praise the builders for an inside pump!) was soon on the stove, then Ranma turned to check Kodachi's condition.

She nearly puked when she saw how bad a state the gymnast was in from the explosion; she must have caught the very worst of it! Burns, bad ones, massive bruising, maybe even internal bleeding, Ranma didn't know how to check for that. He know basic first aid, of course, but that was all. How did you treat burns? Keep them clean, that was right. Really clean. Sterile dressings... find the linen closet. There had to be something like that in this place, spare sheets, pillowcases, maybe a first aid kit with burn lotion.
