Gatekeepers 1/2: Don't you know it's the eve of destruction? [Episode 38272]

by Kestral

Ranma Saotome had trained for years in martial arts and other skills. His Gate power had developed and been tested and it was a doozy. So much so that nobody really liked seeing him use it.

If someone were within three feet of him they were safe. Relatively. As long as he wasn't focussing his Gate on them.

There were a number of names for it, depending on who you talked to within AEGIS.

The Senshi of Silence had been teamed up with the Gate of Destruction. At his lowest, lowest, level of power release - Ranma had blown a 6" thick steel door off its hinges and slammed it into the far wall of the test facility. Even then he'd reported that the power had swirled up and wanted to be released further. Like he was a dam releasing water from an overfull reservoir. A medium-low sized blast (Ranma had estimated 35%) had been performed on a hillside that was going to be removed to lay a rail line. Though it had no radiation involved, the blast had registered in the three kiloton range. He was found, exhausted, in the rubble on the bottom of the crater. Based on that, scientists at AEGIS had determined that his maximum discharge would nearly put him in a coma and would have a yield that made some of the nuclear scientists involved cringe.

Ranma Saotome scared the piss out of a lot of the scientists and admin involved, and received a lot of anger management training. Just in case.

As they had been able to put together Gate Amplifiers, the scientists had figured out the frequencies Ranma's Gate was tuned to and developed a Gate Dampener which he wore as a pair of bracers.

Other than that, there were a few limitations on Ranma's Gate. He would be near the center of the blast radius, so he couldn't knock asteroids out of orbit unless he were landed on one. Just the act of opening and controlling the Gate exhausted him.

The Gate of Destruction. The Apocalypse Gate. The Gate Of Ending. The Forbidden Gate. It depended on who you talked to.

Setsuna saw this and felt a chill. Ranma's Gate at full power was not a match for the Ginzuishou. Usagi wielding the Crystal could become Princess Neo-Serenity and power up beyond Ranma's abilities though it might kill both individuals if they tried to match powers at that level for long. Compared to a simple attack like a "Deep Submerge" or a "World Shaking"? If Ranma opened his Gate to fight the two Outers, the neighborhood would likely be destroyed and two Senshi would be dead.

The good thing was that neither Ranma nor anyone else wanted to unleash that Gate. The problem was that sooner or later, Ranma Saotome might find himself in battle against the Senshi and with that power he might well kill most of them before he was stopped.

Setsuna decided:
