Power and lust.
Those words pretty much summed up Happosai. After all, the acquisition of power so that he could satisfy his lusts made him what he was. A supremely skilled perverted martial artist. Although to be fair, power came a distant second in his worldview. Very distant. Extremely distant. Not on the same block at all.
So when he saw the chance to liberate some books that would increase his power tremendously, and, more importantly, allow him to… indulge… himself after he had mastered the secrets they contained, he took it. Without a second thought.
He did not, however, neglect to take precautions. He was a martial arts master, but if the owners caught him, he would be lucky if he was left able to regret the permanent borrowing of their property. Not that they would kill him. No, they would most probably make an example of him, and that was a fate he didn’t want to contemplate.
So, he ‘acquired’ the necessary instruments to hide his soon to be acquisitions, he made arrangements to have certain memories removed immediately after the deed, he told his pupils to get ready for another training trip, and he insured that he would have a compulsion to go to the Tendo residence exactly two years after the deed and open a trunk that everybody would ignore, believing it full of things too important to throw away but too boring to bother looking at.
The theft went perfectly. He left no physical evidence even the previous owners could use. He stashed his new books in that very old, very warded trunk without anybody being the wiser. Memories of the theft were removed so nobody could trace him mentally. He gathered his students and left the area of the crime, never mind the scene.
So far, everything was going according to plan. (Even if he couldn’t remember the fact that there was a plan.)
Then his students got him drunk and sealed him in a cave, which was a bit of a problem.
Then came the compulsion, but after five years he was able to overcome that, even though it left him with the permanent desire to call the Tendo residence home.
Meanwhile, the books waiting to be discovered were…
