Kodachi helped, at least she tried to, but she was more adept at discovering records of dangerous creatures than at finding records of legal significance. And she kept making cooing sounds at rather...disturbing points and making notes here and there.
Of course, she wasn't quite aware of why she liked "monsters" she didn't really think about such matters, though a psychiatrist would have commented that it had something to do with her brother's fear of creepy-crawlies.
"How could they excute such a marvelous creature just for..." Kodachi paused as Hermione pointed something out. "Hmm, perhaps that creature was truly a danger."
"Here's a case...no wait, the hippogriff was convicted...ewww, look what they did to him."
Meanwhile the normal magnificent Christmas Decorations were being extended all across the school. Kodachi maintained a dignified air, but was indeed quite charmed and taken with the brilliantly colored and spectacular decorations.
None of this, however, distracted her from another goal. And, as Christmas Eve settled on the school she decided it was time to try it. She was certain that there was a window somewhere that gave access to the Gryffindor dorms, and then she could seek out that map of Upperclassman Potter's.
Which was why she was quietly working her way out of the castle so that she could find a good place to start the climb.
She kept a tight hold along the walls, keeping an eye out for that cat of the caretaker's. She had no desire to get caught and sent into detention.
Kodachi smiled as she was deciding that her experience with moving with stealth had even carried over to have some use in this world of magic and oddness. And then she turned a corner and froze as she found herself facing an adult.
It was a particularly nasty looking adult with a skeletal, sunken face and ratty hair. He was familiar in some way, but in her shock Kodachi could only thing that he was some member of the staff that she hadn't yet seen.
"Oh," Kodachi said. "I am seeking the..." Kodachi gasped as she recognized the face. "...kit...chen...shimata..."
Kodachi gasped and turned to run, expecting that she wouldn't get more than a foot or two before the dark wizard killed her. She was already gathering breath to call an alarm when a dirty hand wrapped around her mouth.
"Quiet girl," the man she'd recognized as black said, no doubt heralding her own death when the sudden cry of a cat broke the tension of the scene.
Kodachi was twisted aside even as the dark man seemed almost to vanish in the dark like a ghost. She was too busy spinning and trying to cushion her fall to pay attention to get more than that, not noticing how Black fled.
As Argus Filch came upon the bruised and startled student, it was perhaps the first time that he had been received with a panickly relieved grasp. Though Kodachi did quickly recover her senses and dignity.
