"...Quagmire." The officer looked at Ranma's backpack and roughed up appearance. "Listen son, why dont you come down with me to the station, you look like you could use something hot to drink anyways. And maybe we can talk about your problems."

Sometime later at the police station.
Taking the profered cup Ranma watched the police officer sit down and type something into the computer. He'd already studied the car and the police station even as the officer subtly griled him for information in much the same way as Nabiki, but with a kinder smile and voice. None of the questions had probed that far, just general stuff like name and where he came from. He'd spent so much time studying the town that he didn't notice th surprised expression on the officers face when he mentioned his family name or his mom.
After a few minutes the officer turned to him. "You come from Nerima right?"
"Yeah." It was odd to admit it but Ranma actually felt a bit akward sitting by a policemans desk, maybe it was because Genma made him steal so much as a kid? Needing something to waste time he took a sip from the cup, swooshed it around a little bit in his mouth before finally swallowing. He looked into the cup, trying to determine what the beverage was, it looked like coffee and sort of like tea but it didn't taste like either one. It was bland though.
"Can I have some of that?" Ranma motioned at the packets of sugar and extra plastic spoon on the desk, the officer gave him a glance and a distracted 'sure' as he continued to look at whatever he was looking at on his computer. Ranma quickly dumped four of the sugar packets into his cup and used the spoon to give it a thorough stir before taking another sip. It didn't taste any sweeter...though the taste had changed a little bit. Resigned to whatever fate the policeman decided he put the cup down on the desk and leaned back.
There wasn't anything else to do though without getting out of the chair. So Ranma ended up watching the cup.........watching the plastic spoon dip lower and lower into the cup......disappearing(?!)...........then hearing the cup belch. Then staring wide eyed at the cup and wondering if it would try to eat him next. And finally wondering if Akane had been here.
"Alright Saotome-san, here's your file.......Saotome-san?" The officer hadn't seen anyone stare at their coffee like that. Though there had been that american judge...Harry Stone? Regardless the officer gave the boy a light tap on the shoulder to get his attention.
