Magic had plagued Ranma's former life, the Jusenkyo curse being the most blatant example. All the amazon love potions, magical items like the clone mirror or the reversal jewel and supernatural creatures (the ghost cat and Saffron come to mind) had contributed to make his life the living hell we all know and love.
But with Nabiki's wish and his new parent(s), this time, Ranma would be the one in control of the magical forces in his life.
